(19,263 posts)Unfortunately we have a sadly large number of nature illiterates in this country.
I have witnessed animals crying over a tragedy having befallen one of theirs. I do not believe it is uncommon. But someone who doesn't pay attention might not notice a crow crying in sorrow, vs. a typical crow's vocalizations, for example.
(I don't think the illiteracy or not paying attention aspects apply to you pbmus. Thank you for sharing the photo.

(22,726 posts)4 are still with us. A small sample, but I'm convinced they all exhibit emotions similar in many ways to humans. They all have their own personalities and quirks. Some bond closer to me. Some to my better half. They all dream. I think we've only scratched the surface in human cognition, much less that of other species we share this plant with.

They are beyond amazing in so many ways, including very close snd longstanding relationships with each other and with their care givers. Their resilience after hardship and heartbreak is breathtaking.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
