Hmm. Pence trip to Israel on the 6th being canceled could mean the Congressional debate,

after some Trumpist representatives and senators object to the EC results being certified, could take more than one day.

Two hours of debate allowed for each state that's contested, according to what I've read.

Trump WILL lose again.

But he and his supporters are looking forward to a loooong shitshow as his loyalists whine about the nonexistent fraud and do their best to rile up the base (especially any pro-Trump thugs in DC to show their support).

at the same time.

Which still means at least 2 hours for each state whose election results the Trumpists object to, since there'll be time for voting on each state in both houses (presumably both houses voting at the same time), as well as extra time around the debates.

Add in time for breaks and unless both houses are willing to work well into the night, this could take up much of the day on the 7th, too.

With Trump happily live-tweeting everything and everyone he likes. So expect lots of servile praise of Trump.

Including from corrupt sycophants like Josh Hawley whose most likely intent is positioning himself to run for president in 2024, if Trump doesn't run.

Counting Electoral Votes: An Overview of Procedures at the Joint Session, Including Objections by Members of Congress
Congressional Research Service
Page 6:
Objecting to the Counting of One or More Electoral Votes
Section 15 establishes a procedure for making and acting on objections to the counting of one or more of the electoral votes from a state or the District of Columbia. When the certificate or equivalent paper from each state or the District of Columbia is read, “the President of the Senate shall call for objections, if any.” Any such objection must be presented in writing and must be signed by at least one Senator and one Representative. The objection “shall state clearly and concisely, and without argument, the ground thereof.” During the joint session of January 6, 2001, the presiding officer intervened on several occasions to halt attempts to make speeches under the guise of offering an objection. When an objection, properly made in writing and endorsed by at least one Senator and one Representative, is received, each house is to meet and consider it separately. The statute states, “No votes or papers from any other State shall be acted upon until the objections previously made to the votes or papers from any State shall have been finally disposed of.” However, in 1873, before enactment of the law now in force, the joint session agreed, without objection and for reasons of convenience, to entertain objections with regard to two or more states before the houses met separately on any of them.

Nothing else to do before the 20th anyhow! It's not like Moscow Mitch is going to work to pass any meaningful legislation - he's going to be busy huddling with his other RepubliCons to prepare to tell us why we now need tax cuts because of the deficit.

Maybe not in four years. Certainly, the pace that Trump worked at in the first year, the year he gave tax relief to his buddies, was stunning. I would hope that Joe and Kamala will put a lot of thought into their fixes, and changing the first year will be tough. Especially since they now have to control the pandemic they have been saddled with.

But, we can do it. I think that Kamala will be much more active than Pence or any other VP, and that she will provide a lot of energy and production to help out. Plus, we have people like the Obamas as possible consultants. So, we will be in good shape to get the job done.

We must win the Senate, however. We have to put Moscow Mitch in his place, and negate his control of the Senate. HE is a tremendous obstacle if he remains in power.

Let us pray. Pray to whomever or whatever you believe in. Hope is good. Keep fingers crossed. Georgia, help us out here.

They'll pull some completely outrageous stuff next time, try to win with as little as 45% of the vote if need be, and do a better job of cheating. If they don't win, despite all their dishonest crap, be ready for this year's theatrics to count as a rehearsal only, and to tell the truth, that is EXACTLY what I think this is. They have no illusions about flipping this election. They just want to do a trial run for next time, when they really do intend to reverse the election results if they don't go their way.

All sense of proportion and history has disappeared from the collective Republican mind. They have apparently ceased to care what the rest of the "civilized" world thinks of us, or the damage to our credibility as a nation, a military ally, and a trading partner. I guess they all have Krugerrands or Kilo bars of gold stashed away in their safe deposit boxes, because a few more rounds of this nonsense, and our currency will be worth about as much as the ruble, and the price of gold will soar to $5000 an ounce. Gee, I wonder who THAT would benefit?

Being from the South, myself, I fully realize that many of these Senators and Congresspeople, especially the newer ones, think that visiting a foreign country means a trip to Washington, New York or Boston, and that Europe or Asia are only reachable by Space Shuttle. Their interest in what the rest of the world thinks of us is about equal to their interest in the decipherment of Linear B.

Again, I have to ask whose interest is best served by having our Congress consisting, to a large degree, of such incredibly ignorant people? I'm not saying they don't have street smarts. To successfully sell snake oil, you have to know how to talk up a good show. But let's be realistic: while most countries have their snake oil salesmen, most countries do not select them to govern their nation.
