vaccine ahead of senior citizens. I have searched, and can find nothing? Does anybody have a clue? She swears she heard it on local news.

(18,356 posts)The first New Yorkers to receive the vaccine as part of Phase 1 will be:
High-risk hospital workers (emergency room workers, ICU staff and Pulmonary Department staff)
Nursing home residents and staff
Federally Qualified Health Center employees
EMS workers
Coroners, medical examiners and certain funeral workers
Staff and residents at OPWDD (Office for People With Developmental Disabilities) facilities
Staff and residents AT OMH (Office of Mental Health) facilities
Staff at New York State OASAS (Office of Addiction Services and Supports) facilities.
The priority populations will expand the week of December 28, 2020 to include:
Urgent Care Center employees
Individuals administering COVID-19 vaccines, including local health department staff
Residents of OASAS facilities
Next week, we expect to open criteria to ambulatory care health care workers and public-facing public health workers.

Sorry, but the London-based weekend reporter for Business Insider is playing loose and fast with the facts and Trumpian asshats like Rick Scott and Elise Stefanik are simply doing what they do best: amplifying misinformation in the service of their own personal ambition.

(29,676 posts)It has to do with overcrowded treatment facilities, rehabs and halfway houses. While in rehab they're still medically fragile and the crowded nature of the facilities runs the risk of covid catching and running rampant.

(16,860 posts)I understand the need to vaccinate people in crowded housing, but I don't think they should be given priority over healthcare workers and seniors, regardless of whether they have abused drugs before. Healthcare workers should be first, I think, and seniors should be next because they're the group most likely to die if they get the virus. Of course, young people do die, but at a much lower rate than seniors. Cuomo has made a mistake both logically and politically, and he needs to fix it.

(18,356 posts)What makes you think healthcare workers do not come first?

(16,860 posts)because it had one of those floating ads that keeps getting in your way as you read it. If healthcare workers are going first, that's great. I was wrong and he didn't make a mistake.

(18,356 posts)Andrew Cuomo has been doing a wonderful job. We're lucky to have him as our governor.

(58,785 posts)don't buy it as offered. We're going to stop this pandemic, and that does mean vaccinating superspreaders we can't quarantine. Btw, I love when checking these outrages out reveals yet another of our competent and principled approaches to problems, so thanks for this.

Is your friend a New Yorker? Let her know that here in NYS we are doing our best to prioritize prudently according to the recommendations of experts for containing the spread and impact of the virus. Many think that prison populations should receive early priority as well.
Cops, firefighters, other first-responders, essential workers, and educators are all patiently waiting their turn here in NYS as they continue to show up for the public good despite the dangers.
This is not about entitlement. This is about best practices in public health in the effort of containing a pandemic.

I have clients who talk like that but no friends. Dispatched those folks when Obama was President and they were disgusted with his tan suit.
