Jonathan Alter tweet: If we "move on" . . .

Text

If we “move on”, the GOP will refuse to concede future elections, then judge-shop until they steal one. There must be a price paid for sedition or we will lose our democracy. This is critically important work in the next couple of years.

And, what about some kind of punishment for these ridiculous "frivilous lawsuits" they're filing and they have used that against us for years!

I think Gohmert should have to pay some kind of a fine! This is just ridiculous!

It is dangerously irresponsible. It is an exercise in denialism. It is an abdication of responsibility for the long-term welfare of the country.

That needs to be made clear to the party leadership. Those who engaged in collusion with a foreign adversary and outright sedition to steal power for themselves should face consequences. Any suggestion that we allow them to slide for the sake of "unity" should be met with a chorus of condemnation.

So how did we end up where sedition is thought to be normal politics by as very sizable segment of our population. That speaks volumes for reform so how do you successfully reform free speech? The airwaves are regulated so why not regulate cable and social media in a similar fashion? Call it a fairness doctrine where the regulated entities in order to operate must block misinformation, whether from others or themselves. There are Supreme Court cases whereby speech has its limitations. The one everybody know about is you can't shout fire in a crowded theatre. Certainly preaching sedition would likewise qualify as prohibited speech. But the line must be drawn carefully and there are a couple of court cases that help a great deal in this effort. Let's get started.

We must try to keep the investigations out of the limelight until evidence is gathered.

The Justice Department must try very hard to keep it out of politics.

But the people must know the truth and the facts and they should be presented before the next election. In the interim, if some people need to be indicted and found guilty, then so be it.

There should be an almost secret team from the FBI and Justice to get to the bottom of it.

That win has to be so total and overwhelming that there is no room for even a fanciful claim of "what about....?"

Then, the focus of the court cases turn 180 degrees and send that pack of jackals to the fates they so richly deserve. The hammer has to come down swift and hard, smash and then bury this unbelievably dangerous idea of litigating elections until you get the result you want.
