(5,395 posts)Just for comparison:
Australia, man (me) & wife, both retired.
Payments so far:
$750 + $750 + $250 + a promised further $250.
That's each.
With the more severe impact of the virus on the economy in America compared to here, I'd say $2K stimulus payments are a bit stingy, really.

(5,128 posts)if they give it to you, then they can't have it! Think of the wealthy in Congress! How can they grift the entire government if they give money to... GASP... poors!!

8.9 million Canadians applied for the benefit, out of a total population of 23 million aged 15-64, so it was a widespread benefit.
The basic payout was $2000 per month for a max of four months beginning in March and ending in September. Then other benefits were rolled out and employment insurance (unemployment insurance is what US calls it) was extended.

A year ago Canada had the best balance sheet of the G7 countries. A year later, after the payments, it still has the best balance sheet.

(6,526 posts)For a grand total of $1800. They could have given us $5,000 plus, had they wanted to do it. Mitch McConnell is a pr*ck, just so you know!
Thanks a lot, Kentucky! What were you thinking, that Moscow Mitch has your best interests at heart?
