Severe rationing in WW1. Lots of heads of households killed. Loads of single parent families.
The Versailles penalties causing shortages & rampant inflation.
Then, the Depression.
I think many of those families, and the kids, were more susceptible to radicalization. There truly were some very tough times.
Either of those kids look like things had things terribly rough? Have they gone hungry for an extended period of their lives?
Given the time period, and this country vs. 1930s Germany, I think it's harder to explain this form of radicalization.
