Poll: Florida Latino Voters Lean Democratic

A new poll shows Latino voters in Florida leaning heavily toward Democrats in the upcoming election. But support for Democrats amongst Hispanic voters in Florida is not as strong as it is in other states with large Latino populations.

The poll, commissioned by a national immigration reform group, finds registered Latino voters favoring President Obama over Republican challenger Mitt Romney by a 61% to 31% margin.

The respondents also prefer Democratic incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson 53% to 32% over Republican challenger Congressman Connie Mack IV.

But the support for Democrats among Florida Latinos is not as large as in some other states.

Florida’s largest Hispanic group is Cuban-American and South Florida Cuban voters tend to support Republicans more than other Latino ethnic groups.

The poll, conducted in Spanish and English, surveyed 400 registered Hispanic voters in Florida last week. It has a margin of error of 5%.
