(639 posts)by those whose own mental state is so insecure and unreliable, that they will jump onto the weirdest things to justify their own failure to accommodate basic social norms ( laws, races, genders, economics).
They want to be a victim because they cannot accept their own lives and personalities as something that is, in most aspects, a perfectly normal and acceptable human being.
TV or radio may have made them think they deserve something more.
The fringe right, as emotionally thin-skinned as a human could be, actually thinks they deserve more than they are willing to try and achieve. The whole self-responsibility shtick goes right out the window... the same one they jump out of.
There will never be a race war in America, as most Americans know the only place to make improvement is through legislation that can withstand court challenges and become social and legal norms.
What the right calls culture wars we call progress.
What the right creates as alarms, we call distractions.
Post Trump and the Tea Party GOP are beginning to be shunned, purged and discounted for what they all are.
Wrong and anti-American.
You said it better than I ever could.

(3,131 posts)There is a long path between where we are and full blown civil war. Weve taken too many steps down that path and it will get more painful if we continue.
Two major factions that increasingly hate each other. The republicans, driven by propaganda, believe better fascism than allowing democratic leadership. Weve all seen the tshirts and other displays increase. Better Russian than Democrat.
The anti-democratic moves by republicans and racism shown by too many of them, doesnt inspire love from democrats for good reasons.
Most Americans know this is a bad path, but by what margin? 7 out of 15 voters picked Trump. I hope the undemocratic moves by trump and congressional republicans change that for the better, but even then it leaves a more virulent, angry core.
There are other forces that want to take is further down the path and anger is a recruiting tool.
Here are some litmus tests. How safe would you feel wearing a Democratic or Republic hat in different neighborhoods? How many will choose to avoid and shun members of the other side in non political contexts? I expect that to get worse.
Dont call it civil war. Call it increasing acts of politically motivated violence and terror. Thats a very slippery slope and I hope we manage to step back, but it only takes one side to continue.

(151,187 posts)There are a small number of right-wingers and nutcases who will cause trouble, but that's it. There is not going to be some sort of major uprising - just small groups appearing and making noise.
And by small groups, I mean in comparison to the overall population. If 10,000 people show up in DC on Wednesday, for example, that is actually a small group, even compared to the population of DC.
Troublesome, but far from a "civil war."
