It buys Trump 2 more weeks to strong arm election officials and to get more cases into court.

these wild claims of what they'd do so far, with a long series of losses for what has been tried.

Pence would overthrow our government in an instant if he could, along with most of the Republicans in congress. They haven't mounted a coup because they believe it wouldn't succeed. Pence's inner circle says he'll carry out his ceremonial role while doing his best to protect his ass from Trump's frothing attack dogs (my words).

Of course, I'll be watching too.

election. We need to unite and fight like our lives depend on it because they do. Trump won't end up being a dictator...although he tried and came too close for my taste...if a couple of election officials had helped him, if we had not won governorships in key states... Trump is a sociopath he would have killed more people than Stalin did...made Hitler look like a piker...look at the relish he has shown towards executions.

I can say that Pence's political career is now over (it was before), but no coming back from this.

He does it and the country is gone.

He doesn't do it, and he is just another traitor to Trump.

It is not within Pence's power to delay or change the date. Per the Constitution: The date is January 6. Any other date would have to be set by law.

January 6, 2021: Joint Session of Congress to Count
Electoral Votes and Declare Election Results Meets
On January 6, or another date set by law, the Senate and
House of Representatives assemble at 1:00 p.m. in a joint
session at the Capitol, in the House chamber, to count the
electoral votes and declare the results(3 U.S.C. §15).

Whether the certification can proceed or not. But my understanding is that if no President is certified, then we get President Pelosi on the 20th. Does Grassley then become VP?

Regardless, we best be getting ready to shut down this country if the Republicans are successful in their velvet coup attempt.

The procedures are set by the members of each house. Here is how it will go:

At the end of Tuesday's Senate session,, McConnell will be recognized by whomever is then acting as President of the Senate (probably Grassley) and will ask unanimous consent for an order along the following lines: "when the Senate completes its business today, it adjourn until 12:45 p.m., Wednesday, January 6; further, that following the prayer and pledge, the morning hour be deemed expired, the Journal of proceedings be approved to date, and the time for the two leaders be reserved for their use later in the day; further, that following the prayer and pledge, the Senate stand in recess, to then proceed as a body to the Hall of the House of Representatives under the provisions of S. Con. Res. 1 as agreed to on January 3, 2021, for the counting of the electoral ballots.

This motion will be approved either by unanimous consent or by a vote of the Senate. The Concurrent Resolution referenced above, which has already been approved by voice vote by both the House and Senate, states as follows:
CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
To provide for the counting on January 6, 2021, of the electoral votes for President and Vice President of the United States.

Resolved by the Senate (the House of Representatives concurring), That the two Houses of Congress shall meet in the Hall of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, the 6th day of January 2021, at 1 o'clock post meridian, pursuant to the requirements of the Constitution and laws relating to the election of President and Vice President of the United States, and the President of the Senate shall be their Presiding Officer; that two tellers shall be previously appointed by the President of the Senate on the part of the Senate and two by the Speaker on the part of the House of Representatives, to whom shall be handed, as they are opened by the President of the Senate, all the certificates and papers purporting to be certificates of the electoral votes, which certificates and papers shall be opened, presented, and acted upon in the alphabetical order of the States, beginning with the letter “A”; and said tellers, having then read the same in the presence and hearing of the two Houses, shall make a list of the votes as they shall appear from said certificates; and the votes having been ascertained and counted in the manner and according to the rules by law provided, the result of the same shall be delivered to the President of the Senate, who shall thereupon announce the state of the vote, which announcement shall be deemed a sufficient declaration of the persons, if any, elected President and Vice President of the United States, and together with a list of the votes, be entered on the Journals of the two Houses.

In short, the House and Senate have already enacted the rules governing the count. And on Wednesday, pursuant to the order that will be approved Tuesday, the Senate will join the House in a joint session that will be called to order by the SPEAKER, not Pence. If Pence tried to adjourn the proceeding -- a power that the VP doesn't even have when the Senate is in session by itself, it will be voted down by the House and Senate and the session will proceed. Pence can stay or he can go and leave it to Grassley to preside.

The joint resolution was voted and approved on SUNDAY.

This literally cannot happen, and THE SPEAKER runs the House, not Pence. This will be in the House.
