I'm not familiar with this source, Roll Call, but this could be interesting, if true.

Roll Call
@rollcall
NEW: Iowa Sen. Charles E. Grassley, the Senate president pro tempore, says he and not Vice President Mike Pence will preside over the certification of Electoral College votes, since "we don't expect him to be there."

ETA:
Apparently, Grassley has come out to say Pence will preside:

A Grassley spokesman clarifies that the senator does not "have any indication Pence won't be present." Grassley, he said, was just trying to explain that at president pro tempore of the Senate, he would fill the chair if Pence does not show or steps out at points for a break

I love the image of Pence caught between a rock and a hard place, and greasing himself up and squeezing out the back and scurrying away.

He could be talking about a dead bird he found.

(4,965 posts)I wish it would happen, but I really don't think it will.
It would be awesome, though, because Trump would never get a new VP since House has to confirm, too. Then he can't resign and have his VP pardon him.

Grassley is now thinking - how can I pass this potato to the next person in line. The Majority in the Senate isn't always so fun now.

Pence is still expected to preside over the certification of the election results tomorrow, per his office.

OK you wanted outside the box:
1. Pence would prefer not to subvert the Constitution on Jan. 6.
2. But Pence feels a strong sense of loyalty to Trump.
3. And Pence wants to avoid a demand that he pardon Trump upon a Trump resignation Jan. 19.
So: Pence resigns as VP tomorrow.

If True Pence is covering his ass for any future election runs. Does not want to be any where near this crap fest.

(42,768 posts)Pence not presiding would be consistent with Hubert Humphrey's decision not to preside in 1969 after he lost to Nixon.

(17,400 posts)Rather than certify his own loss. A disappearing act by Pence could make the day go smoother.

(866 posts)Pence reads the states, then with objections, Pelosi does House debate and Grassley presided over Senate debate. That way Pence can just say, ok Congress approved this state. I think its McConnell who wants nothing to do with the BS.

If Pence is a no show, how many others may not be there? I wonder if it may be difficult for some or many elected officials to get to the Capitol building. Is there a quorum requirement in order to hold the count?
