I was in the other room last night and had the TV on pretty loud listening to Brian Williams 11th Hour. I'm not sure if I heard correctly - but it had to do with a Bill Kristol comment that Pence was going to resign Tuesday - one day before he was to preside over this electoral college decision.
What's up with this?

OK you wanted outside the box:
1. Pence would prefer not to subvert the Constitution on Jan. 6.
2. But Pence feels a strong sense of loyalty to Trump.
3. And Pence wants to avoid a demand that he pardon Trump upon a Trump resignation Jan. 19.
So: Pence resigns as VP tomorrow.

It's just a joke, it's never gonna happen.

(19,568 posts)It was never intended seriously. It was due to all the reporting he has been "agonizing" over his loyalty to Trump and doing his constitutional duty.
I admit, the blather over Pence's alleged angst was tiring.

On Tuesday morning, Roll Call reported that Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), the president pro tempore of the Senate, said he would replace Vice President Mike Pence as presiding officer when Congress certifies the 2020 election results beginning on Wednesday.
We dont expect him to be there, Grassley said of Pence, according to Roll Call.
...
George Hartmann, Grassleys deputy communications director, clarified the senators comment in an emailed statement amid the confusion, asserting that Roll Calls report was a misrepresentation.
Sen. Grassley did not say he would preside over the joint session, but instead indicated that he would preside over the debate in the Senateas president pro tempore of the Senateif the Vice President is not present for any portion of that debate, Hartmann said.
Grassley has every expectation that the Vice President will be present on the hill Wednesday, the spokesperson added.

(31,907 posts)That makes more sense than Pence stepping down as the VP.

(31,907 posts)Heard that last night and brought it up on our daily call.
That would put Pelosi in as VP.

(115,869 posts)I doubt very much that it will happen - and even if it did, the ceremonial task of opening the EC ballot certificates and reading the results would go to Chuck Grassley and the process would continue.

(16,616 posts)They were talking about how much pressure Trump is subjecting him to.
(Haven't heard the rumors.)

(25,272 posts)Trump better be careful about just how much pressure he subjects Pence to. Pence might just up and resign if he feels too hard a press on him by Trump and if Mother approves.

If he's smart, he'll put his voice recorder on the phone and place it on the table between them. And, invite his lawyer as his "date."
