Republicans form circular firing squad, blame Trump for senate loss/demand RNC chair resign-Politico

Oh, I love it. One of the best days eva!

https://www.politico.com/news/2021/01/06/republicans-turn-on-trump-georgia-loss-455305https://www.politico.com/news/2021/01/06/republicans-turn-on-trump-georgia-loss-455305

“Trump is the cause of this, lock, stock and barrel,” said one Republican strategist. “But when you’re relying on someone to win you a Senate race that also lost statewide eight weeks prior, you’re not in a position of strength.”

“He is the Dems’ best base animator,” said one GOP strategist involved in the Georgia races. “Look at how high turnout was on their side compared to historical trends. Look at how much their candidates raised. He steps back after Election Day and denies them that oxygen. He didn’t.”

The GOP blame game has expanded beyond Trump to some of his party acolytes. One party official suggested RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel — Trump’s hand-picked party leader — should step down, only a day ahead of the Republican National Committee’s annual Winter Meeting in Amelia Island, Fla.

Let the bloodletting, backstabbing, civil war and crying inside the GOP commence and get the popcorn!

When a potential Georgian senate voter thinks that his vote might keep McConnell in charge of the senate, that seems more logical.

Plenty of blame to go around, in a circular firing squad.

I have said before that the power of the presidency needs to be analyzed and things must change. There must be more checks and balances, we cannot allow another corrupt, evil individual to become president, and there is a long line of those crazies, who are all more intelligent than trump trying to become presidents themselves, the lessons they have learned from trump will serve them well to accomplish what trump was not able to.

I worry about people like Hawley, not Cruz because he may be intelligent, but too many people hate his guts, even inside the GOP, but Hawley seems to be corrupt enough and smart enough to do it.

We learned that much of what restrained presidents from bad behavior was simply force of habit. "Subpoena? Of course I'll comply, it's a subpoena." Now we know that the penalty for ignoring a congressional subpoena is lawsuits that don't go anywhere even if the suit is won. Too much is built upon assumptions. There is no mechanism for requiring financial information from candidates because we assume that the process of running for president will weed out tax cheats and white collar criminals. We assume nobility in presidents the way we assume that nobody will eat the whole tray of samples at the grocery store when nothing is really stopping them apart from a small paper sign and the meek objections of a minimum wage employee.

If we have the good fortune to control congress along with the White House for the next two years, it would behoove us to codify what are currently just norms.

Consequences of substance for ignoring subpoenas. A means of enforcing them. Mandatory votes on judicial appointees. Mandatory trial testimony after impeachment. They can vote how they choose on appointees, but they must at least vote. They can convict or acquit after impeachment, but they must hear evidence and testimony and have a trial.

And NO judicial appointments once voting has begun.

For starters. There are many more things to address.

As I remember all 3 basically said the same thing. They need to be more inclusive and expand their base. Instead they went in the opposite direction utilizing voter suppression tactics and amping up the racist B.S.

I'm sure they will do yet another postmortem, but will they actually LEARN anything?

When Republicans turn their vitriol on one another is when I start laughing out loud.

Seriously, after today's election certification in Congress, the GOP is going to be fatally fractured between those who follow the Constitution and the seditionists. They can't exist together so we'll see them split into two entities, I think. This is good because the seditionists need to be exposed, shunned and kept in their caves. Further, Democrats can use the Republican playbook for once by dividing and conquering the two factions.

PE Biden has a chance to be a monumentally important president.

I really hope that this time the rot in the Republican Party will finally face the light of day. This article in The Guardian clearly lays out at least some of the rot. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/jan/05/trump-is-trying-to-thwart-democracy-itself-but-the-problem-is-deeper-than-one-man

The Republican Party is now the party of anti-democracy and fascism. The whole country needs that fact repeated over and over.

The Lincoln Project. By that, I mean, TLP motivated moderate, reluctant Republicans, some of whom didn't vote often, to show up to oppose Trump, and in doing so they voted Republican for other state and federal offices.

They were absent yesterday. If you show up to oppose Trump and vote for Joe Biden, are you gonna show up to vote for David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler? After Trump's 11,780 vote call? The self-dealing laced with corruption was on display.

And the RNC hasn't a clue what went wrong. They will never figure it out.
