You know, I took part in the 1971 May Day protest agaist the Vietnam war

The whole intent of the protest was to block some streets to demonstrate against the war.

The cops went crazy. They gassed, and beat, and cuffed, and dragged thousands of mostly peaceful protestors into holding pens at RFK Stadium. I saw a cop karate chop a woman who didn't seem to have anything to do with the protests and did nothing wrong. My role was witnessing, staying out of trouble, and bailing people out of jail.

If today's law enforcement reaction to the riots in DC had been even HALF as strong as the response to May Day, this would be over by now.
