(10,481 posts)Somebody accused me of celebrating it earlier. I'm not celebrating it, I just don't give a fuck if you decide to play fate.

(141,926 posts)It's hard for me to actually give any pity or care for somebody that decided to play a game with fate.

(61,033 posts)The security officer, probably part of the Speaker's security detail, was protecting legislatures and staff from violent, domestic terrorists.
She chose to be there, chose to try to climb through that broken window and got shot. That kind of thing happens often to people who foment insurrection.

(33,643 posts)She ABSOLUTELY knew that she was risking her life by breaching the area she was forcing her way into. She's not some ignorant rube who didn't know the rules.
The Secret Service might even have identified, by her actions, that she was a skilled operative, and therefore represented an inordinately high threat, and acted with deadly force in part on those grounds.

(58,785 posts)The stairs were empty to the right of the screen after she went down.
Just a few more seconds quicker might have made the difference, or they might have shot her instead -- she was the first insurrectionist to climb through the breach created in that defense. And she was wearing a backpack.

(8,103 posts)But, what was she thinking? You can clearly see a cop with a hand gun right there in the first doorway in the hall. He wasn't pretending. You can see others in the successive doorways.
This cop didn't fire until he saw her doing something that breached that door. He was defending that door. He probably wasn't going to let anybody breach the door. That's what he was supposed to do.
In view of what happened in Michigan with that Governor, and in view of what was happening here, no one should have thought that they could just freely enter an area where high profile targets were sequestered. And, especially since they had backpacks.
I heard commentators repeatedly stating that the "protestors" were peaceful. No, they were not. Breaking glass and attempting to push against a barricaded door where they clearly were not permitted is not peaceful.
What a waste of life.
Were those cops? They had long guns. If they were cops, why oh why did they allow those people to do all that? I think that needs an explanation.

(61,033 posts)as Antifa...dressing in all black...so as to blame the left. I agee investigations need to be done because those black-clad figures with long guns didn't seem to be trying very hard to stop the rioters.

(62,536 posts)I think she was just jumping through barricaded/doors/windows and she was just moseying along thinking it was just fine to continue the incursion. Huge, huge mistake on her behalf.

(4,625 posts)and invaded OUR CAPITOL BUILDING, threatening and disrupting the work of the highest leaders of our country, who at that very moment were trying to carry out a constitutionally-mandated process to determine who our next President will be.
This after threat after threat to bring guns and setting up nooses and carrying insurrectionist flags historically responsible for hundreds of thousands of dead Americans. No one had any idea who was and wasn't armed in that mob.
I am AMAZED only one of them got shot. What unbelievable restraint on the part of the police, much more restrained than they should have been in a situation like that.
This wasn't a "police action," this was quite literally defending the cornerstone of our federal government against a thousands-strong insurrection.

(96,927 posts)People die in insurrections.
Their right to free speech stopped the second they stormed the Capitol, broke the barricades, and went on a rampage inside the Capitol building where elected officials were trying to conduct government business.
They have made threats for years. They made threats for weeks about January 6th. Made threats the day of - and then they went after members of Congress.
If they thought they would be protected because of Trump, then they're idiots.
She'd dead because of her own actions, the actions of who co-insurrectionists, and because of Trump and his GOP enablers.
That's why she's dead.
So that is the list of people to arrest - the insurrectionists, Trump, and his GOP enablers.
