Donald Trump blocked from Facebook until he is no longer President

Donald Trump will be blocked from posting on Facebook and Instagram at least until he is replaced as President by Joe Biden, Mark Zuckerberg has announced.

Mr Zuckerberg, Facebook's chief executive, said "the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great".

Both Facebook and Twitter had instituted short-term bans after Wednesday's riots in Washington DC, after they were accused of allowing Mr Trump to stir up insurrection.

Mr Zuckerberg said the block would last "indefinitely" and at least until at least the inauguration of Joe Biden on January 20. Facebook had originally banned the President for 24 hours, a block due to expire later today.
