York (PA) Dispatch editorial board
A day that should have seen the nation take the final steps toward its ritual peaceful transfer of power instead saw that process brought to a violent standstill as thousands of supporters of President Donald Trumps baseless claims of a rigged election stormed the Capitol.
That shocking, frightening display of lawlessness was followed shortly after midnight by the sight of Rep. Scott Perry leading a gang of Republican congressmen in an ill-advised, ultimately fruitless attempt to disenfranchise his own constituents by objecting to the counting of the electoral votes from "my beloved commonwealth of Pennsylvania."
If Perry truly believes that the election that returned him to the Capitol for a fifth term was illegal and the results should be overturned, he does have a personal recourse. He can and should resign. Immediately.
"When votes are accepted under unconstitutional means, without fair and equal protection for all, the only result can only be an illegitimate outcome," Perry said on the House floor during debate over his objection to Pennsylvania's votes.

(17,601 posts)from the "base of the T" (many consider Pennsylvania politically divided like a "T" - with the south-east and south-west corners NOT being RepubliCon - while the "body of the T" is RepubliCon). It was impressive to see Rep. Conor Lamb stand there last night calling out the lies that were coming from the "right" - including some of our own representatives (yeah, probably Rep. Perry). Interestingly enough, Rep. Lamb is from the far south-west part of PA which is also quite "RED." He really has a tough assignment winning in the midst of so many Trumpsters.
Again, for an editorial asking for a resignation from a "Con" in "Con" territory - amazing!!

(17,601 posts)his area is heavy "Red/Trump-World" territory. His last election was so close that the Pukes tried "court tricks" to delay and keep him out of office.

(17,557 posts)The bulk of the voters in his district are in Allegheny county. The Trumpers are in my part of the district. It's the biggest physical part of this district, but can easily be outvoted by the Allegheny county portion. That's how Lamb won his elections in 2018 and this year.

(17,601 posts)We've got our share of crazies both in the State offices and DC. Every election is a serious fight for SO many!

(12,465 posts)He has been a Trump ass-kisser the entire time, no matter what the subject or issue was. Yesterday he tweeted that Trump was the best President since Abraham Lincoln! I swear to God.
