The captol beer hall pustch: thoughts and a few thorny issues:

https://www.npr.org/sections/congress-electoral-college-tally-live-updates/2021/01/07/954446008/authorities-identify-woman-killed-by-police-during-u-s-capitol-rioting

OK, the above article will inform a lot of this, but not all. I confess, I am very upset when I see what happened yesterday: another interation of that classic Fascist standard: the Beer Hall Putsch. A mob takes over an area, causes a stir, but in the process, even as they are defeated, they gain the martyrdom that is a deadly weapon for any movement.

I have no doubt that the right wing will make Ashly Babbitt some sort of martyr. That they will smooth over the sharp edges (like the fact she was dying in an act of violence), or the fact she swallowed Qanon whole. It is a part fo fascism to ensure the dead become saints. Note how people like Hitler and Nathan Bedford Forrest are sainted, how hard it is too even pull down statues of these folk.

I do not want to react with hate, because then I will become WHAT I hate. On the other hand, I do find it very hard to show empathy for the sort of people that tried so hard to demonize me, and ruin the world I live in, starting with what was my nation.

Do I think that there is a large part of the working class that feels hollowed out, that does feel that those who loved the Tech Barons and media Magi did let them hang while outsourcing and Nafta did do deadly damage. Yes. If we are going to deal with civil rights, we have to deal with the economic. the sheer fact that the working class as a whole has been shafted, BUT, we also have to put front that of this working class, the browns and Blacks are still "last hired, First fired." No, America is not going to be some socialist revolution like some people dream of, but at the very least, the power billionaires have iin this country needs to be put to hell, hard! Until we do, they will feed pouring gasoline on Fascism's fires, because they profit off it.

However, before I start a socialist Kum By Ya, we have to be blunt: Yes, ever coveted White Working class got screwed, and the Black and brown working class got screwed harder, sometimes with the active participation of the white working class. I can remember growing up in the Rust Belt, where Unions hated Latinx. I even remember reading democratic Underground, where people spoke of Latinos as threats to American workers; I had to get the same BS the right wing sites fed, from the place that was supposed to be for solidarity. Bernie Sanders, I love you, but the way some of your followers outright attacked Black people for daring to question his credentials as savior was a LOW POINT. Some of these white area that do indeed, have poverty, are often the same ones that would proudly beat up anyone that tried to help them, and even after the help comes, they still talk of Obama as if he were some alien.

My point is, I want too keep my idealism up, not just because it is "nice", but because I know that if I internalize the hate, It will be doing the bigot's job for them. Now, am I going to lie and deny the thoughts I have, like the fact I know their beloved Putin would have killed most of these people, and sent the rest to the gulag? Oh, that demon is blowing virtuoso solos in my head right now, I will admit it. I am also very, very tired of the "hillbilly elegy" type pieces that sat "if only YOO uppity city folk would help us and respect us and admit we are better than YOO, we would vote left on oak-ay-shun." I even get tired of Michael Moore sometimes:he is perhaps America's most honest, eloquent voices of working class, and few have dared to expose the rot underneath the mask as he, but when he sails over the fact that many of his working class whites hate us, I want to scream! Still, I realize that if America is going to work, it has to work for everyone, which means, rights and responsibilities.

I will not allow myself to hate because I am hated, though I think I can some here and say to many of you here on DU: "It is hard, especially at a time like this." Confessions is supposed to be good for the soul, I will let you know if it is.

I agree. A little bit of shaudenfreude is acceptable in the short term. Don't worry about hating, because love of country is clearly motivating your concerns. Keep that love central and it'll guide you right.

There's another post in DU this evening where a fellow DUer tells of whispering to the flag on his porch "You're asking a lot of me" and the flag says yep. You're saying the same thing, and that's good. That's the way it should be

one of the redeeming sides of the internet is to remind myself that I am not alone out there.

a POTUS who has never even read the US Constitution. These RWers are more delusional than ever, and that means a lot.
