How about they go back to work TODAY and work on the articles of impeachment, work through the night and weekend and vote as soon as possible, latest by Monday?

I shudder at what can happen even between now and the weekend, yet alone by middle of next week.

on the Articles of Impeachment. As I read it, the House will bring them to the floor for a vote by the middle of next week -- unless the 25th is invoked.

These things aren't done overnight! Takes a while to cross the t's and dot the i's.

Should have been pre-written Articles of Impeachment, ready to vote on with a just a few last-minute edits.

43. I don't buy that, they have the manpower to do it quickly, that many days is unacceptable

They know what to do, they have two clear proofs of his criminality, the mob issue and the Georgia call. Like Neal Katyal pointed out, it should only take two hours for the Congress and two for the Senate on the same day, play the tape and have everyone listen to it (1 hours and 6 minutes), then take an hour to vote and send it to the Senate, repeat.

That is almost a full week the criminal will be around loose, what will he try to do?

22. They ARE working

It takes several days to get this to the floor. There's more to voting on impeachment than just going to the floor to vote - at least if they want it to be a valid impeachment.

Members, Committees and staff are working their asses off to get the bill ready to be voted on within the quickest possible fast-track. This takes a few days.

And they are doing this less than 48 hours after they were subjected to a terrorist arrack in their chambers and offices. So I'm sure they'd appreciate a little less carping and second-guessing and a little more support.

47. I am more than fully aware of what is involved

I have worked previously on a committee and I have contacts on Capitol Hill that educate me on going ons.

Carping? Hardly...this situation is serious as fuck and these articles donít need to be fancy or extensive. As pointed out, they have been to this rodeo just last year and like an obituary pre-researched and pre-written, they knew that Trump was going to do criminal activity again. And as Neal Katyal pointed out, just play the Georgia tape for one article to be voted on and the second with insurrection and Sedition and show video of Trump right before the terrorists marched and stormed the Capitol and show his tweets. Take a vote. Send it to the Senate.

Every minute right now matters.

PS: since I wrote my post I have gotten more info from sources of mine that tell me damage on Capitol Hill to offices and property are worse than being reported. Also - itís lookinb unlikely that Pence will invoke 25th - unless they are trying to throw Trump off. Same for Congress saying they will be ready by middle of next week. Make the treasonous asshole think he has more time than he actually does.

Obviously, you were under the impression they are NOT working today or working on the articles of impeachment. Glad to know you don't really believe that.

But since you worked on a committee, surely you know that they probably cannot schedule this vote for Monday.

..about what I meant and said and then being critical.

Look at this thread and the original post - look at what I and others have said. Then on at your responses and questioning me and trying to lecture on what the Congress can and cannot do, making me wrong and then mocking that I should know better if I worked for a committee.

Yeah - whatever is what I ask myself about what you are trying to do and hijack this thread where people are expressing their genuine feelings on the urgency of the matter.

Ironically (or not so ironically) you attack my expression and question it and try to dissect - but express none of your own opinion and feelings - only dissecting others and their reasoning.

It forces the GOP to pick their poison soon.

Impeachment doesn't stop them from invoking the 25th amendment.
Impeachment doesn't stop Trump from resigning like Nixon did.

Americans need the truth. An impeachment trial will probably not succeed but it will help bring out the truth.

The House can call an emergency session and suspend rules/modify its procedures as it sees fit. There is nothing "illegal" about it.

Drawing this out is political posturing designed to embarass people (Pence et al) who already feel no shame.

So another week of trump crimes, abuses of power and immoral pardons, sponsored by US tax payers?

It's not just that the entire nation is in danger with this thug in office, it's the (racist?) double standard that pisses me off. Obama would have been arrested Wednesday night! Republicans would have already impeached, convicted, indicted, and would be well on their way to imprisoning a Democrat who did this.

So sick of this shit!

are still working Pence and remaining cabinet members. 25th would be immediate removal, impeachment needs the Senate which if Iím not mistaken Mitch said could go home. Thereís just not time and impeachment att this point wonít remove him. Needs to go on the record but ...

However, if I'm reading that correctly, invoking the 25th Amendment has an absurdly long time line, even assuming everyone, or a vast majority, are on board with it.

Impeachment could be a lot faster. Especially if the House would consider working through the weekend.

Dear lord, if we had another Pearl Harbor attack it would probably take six months for a resolution condemning it to pass.

Why not vote on them by noon today? Send them over to the Senate and hold a vote there no later than 6pm today. And if the Senate does not convict, start all over again. Yeah, I know the Senate is supposed to have a trial, but they didn't bother last year.

29. In the face of a challenging task do legislators not see the clear path to their duty?

I'm at a loss to find comparability in nature with their delays. But here's my try: mealy bugs, armadillos, opossums, hog-nosed snakes, hedgehogs, ostriches(allegedly).

One can shut one's eyes and cover one's ears but there is no insulation from the passage of time's realities. Five days, more or less, is time enough for nuclear weapon detonation or asteroid impact or pockets of insurrectionists across the country to make war against their local governments or their neighbors. Surely the removal of one man from his perch in the national scene could be wrapped up in such a duration. It will undoubtedly be time enough for around 20,000 more American Covid deaths.

BTW, is Pence in fact the acting president at this time? Asking for 330 million friends.

why Pence is against the 25th. He has presidential ambitions. He could be president for 11 days. In those 11 days, if he can immediately generate a spine for himself, he could work with Biden to get the vaccine off the snail doing the rollout and all kinds of impressive things. He gets his name in the history books as not just President but an effective rescuer, he gets good press for his presidential run, he's already roused the ire of crazy moron MAGAts so nothing to lose there. He has one chance to step up and do the right thing. But he can't seem to dislodge his lips from trump's ass. What a shame.

Especially this one, during a pandemic. They also need to gather information. There is a lot coming to light even today that I would suspect will make it in. This is why the 25th was the best option. They likely have not confirmed enough votes yet.

The resolution is already written and impeachment resolutions can be voted at any time.

While I think they should do this immediately, I will trust Pelosi has a good reason. But writing the resolution and getting it to the floor is not a reason.
