Although many rioters clearly fought police to enter the Capitol, this video—which I am just seeing this afternoon for the first time—clearly shows Capitol police just standing by and welcoming a throng of protesters in:

Capitol police open doors for the protestors. They stand aside and invite them inside.

"I disagree with you," says one police officer. "I respect you."

Just shocking.

I was extremely skeptical and dismissive of claims that Capitol police would have just let protesters waltz in without going through a metal detector.

I thought we would have seen a video like this yesterday if it were true.

I was wrong.

This video does not show police letting people in, it shows doors opening, but not who opened them.

it's just staggering that these people, even those elected officials, couldn't wait to post their mugs on the internet. That reality they live in must be something else.

To a man completely covered in black tactical gear carrying a backpack walking into the Capitol Building while Congress was seated.

And saying that's unbelievable so many times over the past two days. I have been to the Capitol as I'm sure many here have, and that adds to the sheer disbelief of these events. We know you only go where they allow and you have to pass through multiple checkpoints - and that's only after the process of getting to visit.

If it had them, the rioters could have been kettled in stages.

driving away from reports of bank robberies. He found out that the first agent on the scene was usually responsible for all the paperwork and reports. So, they waited a little while -- I assume if the robber had left -- to get there.

The guys in that video look like they don't want to mix it up with the white wingers. Although there is no excuse period, hopefully their failure to respond is more they are waiting for help and they want to go home, than sympathy for the rube terrorists.

If a cop opens the door for you and motions you in, you're gonna figure it's OK, aren't you?

I hope we find "smoking gun" evidence of a stand down order. I find it hard to believe the cops all simultaneously surrendered en masse.
