Dear Congresswoman Luria,
As a retired Naval Officer, I'm sure you share my concern that active or retired military may have participated in the horrible events at our seat of democracy on Wednesday, 7 January 2021.
As a retired Navy Mustang Officer, I am deeply saddened, and angry enough to spit nails. I served for 29 years. In most cases, I never even knew what the political beliefs of my fellow Shipmates was. It wasn't important. It didn't matter, because we all swore an oath to the Constitution, not a party, or individual.
Any military member, active, or retired that participated in the terrible events at the capitol that day MUST be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and the UCMJ.
Active duty members must be identified and punished. I'm not talking Captain's Mast, or Office Hours with Restriction or a slap on the wrist. They must face Court Martial, Dishonorable Discharge and significant confinement in Federal Prison if convicted.
Retired members, NO MATTER THE RANK, TIME OF SERVICE, OR DISABILITY STATUS, MUST be recalled to Active Duty, Court Martialed, stripped of all rank, privilege and awards, and sentenced to significant confinement if convicted.
This is the only way to deal with this sedition, or we are going to find ourselves at this very same place 10-20 years from now.
This simply cannot be allowed to stand. The Court Martials should be streamed live and broadcast on every media platform.
If needed, several of my retired Shipmates and I stand ready for recall to serve as GCM Members.
Sincerely,
×××××××××××××, CDR, USN(RET)

(13,018 posts)Just think, all the Pelosi haters just cashed checks from her at $600 per head. The idiot in Pelosis chair, 5 kids and a wife=$4,200, same with the guy stealing the lectern. Identified, wife and 5 kids. AND when Joe gets in, every single treasonous asshole there may get $2,000.
At least all identified should be denied a dime, and IRS should collect returns from the first 2,000 and the current 600. Saw numerous signs to end socialism.

I would like to see Michael Flynn recalled to Active Duty and Court Martialed. He should definitely lose his rank and pension, if not more.

(1,402 posts)Hooray, Max Rand. You voice my opinion.........thanks...Who gets off saying invading our hallowed halls of our democracy wasn't a criminal act. Who says so.?, the Justice Dept. probably appointed by DJT. I want to know the facts!!! We elect these officials to protect our property and us and then they write off a criminal act like breaking into the White House and breaking and destroying our property and even stealing things, and people even lost their lives. I believe we all are owed an explanation, all involved should be charged and imprisoned immediately!!

(10,484 posts)Truth, outrage, and passion delivered to the powers that be all fit the moment.
As for the plural of court martial, it seems court-martial or court martial are both acceptable as singular nouns and courts-martial or courts martial the preferred plural forms (per Wikipedia, for instance.) However, Merriam-Webster approves either courts-martial or court-martials. (They don't mention the non-hyphenated versions.) I suspect they won't be the only ones finding the s after either the first or second word acceptable.
In a similar vein, while I haven't looked up whether Attorney General or Attorneys General is considered correct, I'll bet the second is the preferred, but the first acceptable.
Due to my background, as both a student and a teacher, I almost always notice typos and related errors and they distract from the message. However, as they are more and more common (I am mortified at how many errors can be found in things I've posted!), I'm working on learning to move on from the jolt they give my brain and focus on the message. Though, often the errors make it possible only to assume the writer's intent, when a correction would have made it far more definite.

(2,227 posts)I too started as an enlisted kid, six years later was commissioned and retired as an Army O-6 with 21 Active years and 17 in Guard/Reserve units. I always voted, mostly absentee ballots, from around the world and across the nation as assignments and missions took me away from home and family in NC. What these cowards and seditious traitors did to our Capital is disgusting and they should all be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Noon on January 20th will not get here fast enough for me!
