(115,681 posts)whose purpose was to investigate private citizens for allegedly being communists and produced the Hollywood blacklist that ruined many careers; and they also encouraged the internment of Japanese-Americans during WWII, while refusing to investigate the KKK because they were considered to be "good Americans." It was itself one of the most un-American things Congress has ever done and we sure as hell don't need to repeat anything like it.

(115,681 posts)As I often say on DU, "I understand the sentiment...." but NO. HUAC has such a disgusting legacy in the US, that to bring it back, if even to go after actual insurrectionists, is just a flat out NO.
We have plenty of systems and agencies in place to bring the insurrectionists to justice that we do not need to bring out that piece of crap.
If you want to talk about "witch hunt" in American politics, this is exactly what would be at the top of the list. Joseph McCarthy used to ruin many innocent lives.
We don't ever want to go back to that.
