(58,374 posts)It was July when I was in Philly, same month as our Declaration of Independence was signed. It was suffocatingly hot and humid. I remember guzzling ice water and wondering how our founding fathers could sit in those stuffy rooms with no air conditioning--fully dressed in their formal clothes. I was just wearing a tank top and shorts...and close to dying. I don't know how they were able to think at all in that heat, let alone come up with those brilliant founding documents. But they did what they had to do for our country. And we will too. We'll get through this and continue to work on making a more perfect union.

(320,545 posts)from Philly's 2nd District Rep, Brendan Boyle. It's the first I've heard of the Rising Sun Chair.
That sounds like a really hot day in July! I was there in August quite awhile ago while we were on vacation from California.. & remember the big ol Liberty Bell!
I also had my baby son.. he evidently wanted to be born in Philly!

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
