I agree with Frank Figluzzi on MSNBC right now.
We need to have law enforcement monitoring social media platforms at this point.

Social media activity about Wednesday's riots were well known to authorities. The authorities chose to do nothing.
More laws about this will not make us safer

Thank the NRA for preventing Domestic Terrorist language from making it into this legislation. And now we see how one major Lobbing Group worked to protect their White Gun Humpers form exposure in Domestic Terrorism.

system work.

(484 posts)I can see a possible need for a law, besides RICO, to allow LE to monitor and charge groups wrt violent conspiracy but I also fear such a law would be misapplied to progressive/left groups. I have heard/read people like Figluzzi claiming that LE could only charge individuals with lesser crimes, like illegal possession of a firearm, even though everyone knew there had been a conspiracy of a group of people to do something much more nefarious. They also cant usually act proactively before the crime is committed, even if they have evidence that its planned (outside of RICO? not sure about that). By and large I think thats a good thing, else theyd harass and arrest people for intemperate language alone, which Id oppose.
We know the FBI and other LE have targeted leaders of BLM for surveillance just for organizing protests. I dont want them to be able to harass all of us even more based on a more draconian law.
On balance, I think Im against such an expansion of state power. But Im open to an argument that such a law would do far more good than bad.
