(9,354 posts)john Cleese explains it particularly well for non-professionals.
But my experience (75 years) suggests much farther up the levels of intelligence than Dunning and Kruger thought.
In less stupid people it presents as thinking one knows more than one actually does. Usually that translates to thinking one knows more outside of one's own field of expertise than one, in fact, does. But the result is the same. Smart as well as stupid people walk into the same traps.

(38,634 posts)and not just the second hand summaries of it, you would not have made your first comment, because it is not consistent with their stream of research.

(64,688 posts)I have heard of his "smart" reputations since he became a senator. He backs it up with easily debunked lies and illogical constructs.
Methinks his reputation far outweighs his demonstration of his abilities.

Cruz is like Newt Gingrich, another asshole who I didn't consider particularly smart, despite media portrayals.
Just because one graduates from an Ivy League school doesn't automatically mean they're "smart'. I give you GWB, for example.

(6,552 posts)Besides, she has 1 huge advantage: she's willing to admit when she makes a mistake and say she's sorry. So I find her more than creditable. Ted...not so much. In fact, I don't think he's done 1 thing to make himself creditable. He's just a lying POS. She's an up and coming leader.

Frank Luntz taught them well with his "Daily Talking Point" tactic.
