Recitation of the presidential oath of office is the only component in this ceremony mandated by the United States Constitution (in Article II, Section One, Clause 8). Though it is not a constitutional requirement, the chief justice typically administers the presidential oath of office

So I hope they keep it indoors with few attendees by invitation only. Show it on TV, just like always. All attendees go through a metal detector and show an ID badge, everyone wears a mask. No exceptions.

January in the first place? I understand that they can not pack in the thousands of civilian viewers into many indoor venues, but just broadcast it to them from a safer, secure location. This made sense in an era of horse drawn carriages, no interstate roads, when most travel between states was done in sail ships.

Franklin Roosevelt decided that an almost six month delay between election and inauguration made no sense in the 20th century, so he moved the inauguration up to January.

The timing for national elections was also an 18th century decision. November was chosen because by then most crops would be harvested and farmers would be able to take the time needed (sometimes a day or more) to get to the polls.

Most democracies schedule their elections taking into account that farmers are no longer the overwhelming majority of the electorate, and we now have internal combustion engines and highways to help with travel.

I wonder if we would ever change the cycle to a time of year that isn't too hot or too cold for most places to encourage getting out to vote and having the inauguration ceremony during a milder time of year in DC. Or better yet, shortening the period between certification and inauguration. Not to mention getting rid of the Electoral College.

Well, that's my wish list. I won't hold my breath.

I am so worried about this date when the traitorous/seditionists in Capitol Police and DOD and Pentagon are still in place and probably have input into this. Just like they knew where Clyburn was working, even though there was no name on the door, they will know the back ways to get to the new government officials. They were all hired by the traitor because of their traitorousness and willingness to embrace right wing extremism.

Other Senators were sworn in on Jan 3rd

https://www.senate.gov/artandhistory/senate-stories/when-a-new-congress-begins.htm

GA Senators will be sworn in as soon as they are certified (the swearing in is actually a formality Perdue and Loeffler will lose their seat privileges the minute their successors are certified by the GA Secretary of State. At that moment the Democrats will be the majority party.

"At best" that can be done any day that the counties certify which could be done at any time but must be done by 1/15, at worst on Jan 22nd, although all indicators are that it will be done days prior to the Inauguration.

Raffensberger has to wait until all 159 counties have finished their official count and county certification.

That must be done by January 15th. After that Raffensberger must certify within 17 days by Jan 22nd.

Raffensberger has already announced that he will certify the two GA Senators prior to the Inauguration.

https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/08/politics/raffensperger-georgia-senate-election-confirmation/index.html

"We will get that done as soon as we can," Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said Thursday, noting he intends to wrap up by Inauguration Day.

While it is possible Raffensperger is lying I think that we should take him at his word in regards to vote certification given his recent past history. He didn't give an exact date and time but having made a promise to get it "done as soon as we can" should mean that shortly after 1/15 the results will be certified and the Democrats will be the majority party.

There are no facts that indicate that it will not be completed prior to the Inauguration although it is theoretically possible if Raffensperger turns on his present publicly stated position to "get that done as soon as we can".

Biden and Harris should be sworn in at separate undisclosed locations at the earliest hour allowed. Pelosi should be elsewhere.

It can be tape-delayed and broadcast later. Get Biden in control of the military, Joint Chiefs, National Guard, FBI and other security forces as early in the day as allowed. Can they do it at 12:01 am? Then order in all the forces to arrest everyone who shows up armed and announce that the inauguration is cancelled, it's already been done.

Remember that Lyndon Johnson was sworn in on a plane, as I recall, after JFK was assassinated. It does not have to be a public ceremony.

Besides she’d never act like she was afraid to be at an event like this one.

And I’m sure she’s not.

An Inauguration is an official "National Security Event" with the absolute highest level of security - nothing like we saw the other day.

...and all others who would normally be at the inauguration should be there. To not be there is to give in to the intimidation of the seditionists. This country have the resources and assets to make this inauguration as safe as any of those in the past. The insurrectionists should not be sent any signal that they are feared or they can impose fear on our elected officials.

Whether it takes place in that basement congressional chamber or virtually, I don't think this should be a public event. With vows to continue their insurgent protests in the days leading up to the Inauguration, it's a danger to every attendee or the people gathered to see it. And something that I haven't seen discussed (but I'm sure it's out there), you have to know that tRump will try to upstage it himself by digging in at the WH and refuse to leave, and whatever it takes to forcibly remove him will be a spectacle in and of itself.

If we can't keep our President and Vice President and Speaker safe it's time to close the door on this nation. NO, I don't think she should avoid going. I DO think there should be EXCESSIVE caution exibited.

This would be a good way to give the good, honest, real patriots of our country a opportunity to see that the government will carry on, regardless of what went on in the Capitol on January 6th.

Also, nothing says the president-elect and vice president-elect have to be in the same place.

My suggestion is for President Biden to take Chief Justice Roberts to Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, and swear the oath in the base commander's office. Vice President Harris should take either Justice Kagan or Justice Sotomayor to Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA, and swear the oath in the base commander's office. This way the deplorables can go to DC and get arrested and our leaders will be safe because they will be thousands of miles away.

Have to be in one place. I'm not sure if there's a requirement for who swears in the VP. If not, Kagan or Sotomayor and Harris could be in a different location. If Roberts has to administer the oath, they could take him by helicopter from the president to the vp while they show a montage of her accomplishments or the administration's platform. And Pelosi should be sipping champagne in a safe house in an undisclosed location.

And we don't need to know that's what happening. They could even use the same room background for both, and a different room than they're actually in.

It's not paranoia when they are out to get you.
