As horrid as Wednesday was.. the ugliness, the brutal hatred.. are we better off for it happening

Not for the loss of life.. but for the exposure of what has been brewing in the darkest corners of the internet. People isolated from one another during this pandemic and now seeking out communities online that is warping perceptions. Trumps popularity is starting to finally go down.. are the scales finally falling away from peoples eyes. Will we be better prepared for the next onslaught by the deranged? Trying to find that silver lining..

More than anyone can keep up with. I think more than I have ever seen on this forum in my 10 years here.

It was heartbreaking to watch but the reality has smacked people in the face.

with the added benefit of outing a lot of bad actors and the potential to expose their networks.

Better to get this all out into the open and dealt with now instead of four more years of dragging them all behind us while Biden tries to actually get things done.

They’ve been stirring and fomenting for 30 years like it was a game - One issue voters, binary choices to issues, sex tease media. Sure every once I a while one loose screw would go off here and there but no biggie. All those games got turned into doomsday and legend making time by media players who weren’t contained. They may have just realized that they have open containers of gas in the backseat and Fire has no loyalty it just seeks more fuel.

I think the GOP's constant lying, cheating, pandering, brainwashing is laid bare for all to see,
the stark ugliness. The emperors have no clothes.

I don't think so. I think that the rightwingnuts are encouraged by the lack of massive arrests, the negligible charges being filed against them. They have yet to see any deterrent.

Most of the people who committed the crimes, including the murderer, walked away from the capitol, taunting police as they went. Only the ones who were the most visible have been arrested. Some of the announced charges are violating a curfew; that will not exactly throw the fear of God into these people. I don't think that the hardliners see the event as a defeat by any means. Bullies will keep pushing until someone pushes back harder. Much harder.

My wife plays games on the xbox and one of her guildies brought it up. It's part of the guild rules not to talk about controversial subjects in guild chat, but he did. A lifelong Republican, he said he was sorry he ever supported this traitor. That he is welcoming to Joe Biden as president.
