I was responding to an earlier thread about Mar-a-lago

And how the police respond much more harshly to private property incursions than to those against a goverment property. It made me think about how foundational the idea of private property is in the US. I've heard that in the original declaration of independence the phrase "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" was life, liberty and the pursuit of property. Don't know if that was true or where I read it but looking at the founding fathers i think it is true. Then I think of how the native Americans didn't really have a concept of property. The rethugs have certainly made a career of enabling a small minority to build vast fortunes. Its really at their core of beliefs. I often see "constitutionalists" declare a strong military as if that is supported by the constitution which is not.We maintain a strong military to defend American business interests.America has not been threatened militarily in many years so perhaps what they really believe what the strong military is for is the control of its own citizens. Certainly trump thinks that.

The south threw that in as part of a deal. The added it in the constitution to control slaves. That's why when cops will shoot a black even if they even think a black person has a gun. They're not thinking about 2nd amendment as a right for black person.

The Army must be funded. This was a control to shut down the land forces should they get out of control. I’m told that at the Pentagon this is a regular bit of teasing done by the Navy guys to the Army people.

the fact that they wouldn’t agree to be each doled out some small parcel of land, that could later be stolen, predated, connived away, one by one, separated from each other instead of a contiguous range.

In many ways it is the same issue that people like the Bundys, and mining/extraction corporations have with federal ownership of land. It is MUCH easier to steal/chip away/etc from a smaller/weaker state (or an individual in the case of the Native Americans) than it is the federal government (or an entire tribe).
