What did they think would be the actual outcome? OK so some of them would get in the Capitol and murder and take people hostage. But did they think that they would succeed in making Trump dictator for life, and black people would simply go back and pick cotton as share croppers? This is a rhetorical question. But it just baffles me that they are so deluded that they thought they could actually cause a successful coup. Yes Trump's civilian leaders in the pentagon might hem and haw and do nothing, but the army would not tolerate a coup.

(3,645 posts)It seems t be too hard for them to go from point A to point B or even harder to get to point C. All they see is point A. And many of them were not low educated, but rather lawyers, CEOs, business people not to mention cops and firemen. It's like they will fully turned part of their brains off.

(14,854 posts)I don't believe most of them were planning anything in particular beyond that. They expected Trump to tell them what to do, and he wound them up and told them to go to the Capitol, so they did. Trump promised them he was going to go to the Capitol with them, he told them he would be there. He didn't and he wasn't. Instead, he got into his limousine and buggered off back to the White House to watch on TV.
