Should Democrats approach Sen Murkowski and lobby her to switch to our party?

Buried underneath all the GOP bullshit is a conflicted person that is struggling with her GOP party's toxic culture vs her own ability to be reasonable.

In other words, her ability to be reasonable is starting to outshine her ideology. She sees the venom that Trump represents and detests what it has done to our country.

That makes her reasonable enough to be a Democrat.

People can change and that is something that we as Dems must never forget. It's our job to change hearts and minds with simple, basic facts.

I hope in the coming days that Dem leadership will sit down with Sen Murkowski and lobby directly to her inner good because there is good hidden in her somewhere.

Sen Murkowski, its not too late to save your soul. C'mon over to the side of good hearted people. You wont regret it.

Being reasonable might just be the best way that anyone can serve their country.

If her heart‘s not in it enough for her to do it on her own, then it‘s no use trying the hard sell.

No reason she can’t stay Independent like Angus King, or dare i say it, Bernie Sanders, and caucus with Democrats. She could be a 21st century Wayne Morse.

...but then she'd have to choose who to caucus with and if she says Dem she's damned politically and if she says Rep, she has her own soul to contend with. I was thinking maybe she is thinking retirement but at only 63 she's young by Senate standards so I will bet she stays Rep is she wants to run again. There have only been two Democratic senators from Alaska in the last 80 years although Trump only got 54% there in November so maybe the political winds in Alaska are changing. I'd love to see an exodus from the Rep party but given we didn't flip many Senate seats in the election, even with last week's events I doubt there will be real movement. But one can hope!

Which is worth revisiting since I believe the narrow view he offers on Murkowski's inner self is true. Today's Republican leaders and their donor classes purged what he calls sincere conservatives long ago, those who remained sellouts who go along as required to be allowed to remain.

The point about Colins's and Murkowski’s impending vote for Kavanaugh exposes them as titanic frauds who have gamed the choice issue for their personal benefit for decades. Sincere people have committed points of view on this difficult issue. These two are not amongst them.

They built their political careers around the premise that they are tough and independent leaders who will defend Roe v Wade. Turns out that was a con on the level of Trump University. In the end they will be the architects of the repeal of Roe v Wade. They conned a lot of people for a long time but like all cons the day always comes where the curtain is pulled back. My objection to them isn’t on the basis of a belief. It’s on the basis of how dishonest and full of shit they are.

Murkowski said she is speaking frequently with U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-West Virginia, who is the most conservative Democrat in the Senate and will be a key vote on many Senate actions.

“We’ve talked a lot. In fact, my 3 o’clock call is with Joe and with a bipartisan group of colleagues that are really concerned about where we are, and how we move forward,” she said.

“I think I am including myself as part of a group of members that wants to work to try to bring things together in the Senate and wants to try to get some business done. And this is going to be a (Biden) administration where I’m going to be disagreeing with where they’re taking us on a lot of issues and policy, but I would like to think that we’re never going to question their fidelity to the oath of office,” Murkowski said.

Murkowski will not join Democratic majority

Later Friday, Murkowski told Alaska Public Media that she will not join the Senate’s new Democratic majority but is talking to moderates in both parties, in the House as well as the Senate.

She said Republicans who did not repudiate Trump earlier — including herself — bear some responsibility for the state of Congress and the nation.

“I allowed myself to refrain from speaking my truth,” Murkowski told Alaska Public Media. “And I can’t just be quiet right now.”

Basically admitting that while under the con, she &her GOP colleagues were told to tow the line. Spineless. Lets see if she can mister up the moral courage to at least be an Independent and work w Dems.

then be replaced by a Democrat, perhaps John Fetterman, who will be running for Toomey's seat next year anyway, but gives Dems a 51-49 majority now.
