Their cult leader just turned on them to save his own skin. (Too late.) Lets be real: The president was trying to stage a coup. He resisted sending in troops to quell his own mob. He knows the mountain of corruption and sexual assault charges that await him at noon on Jan. 20, if not sooner. The events of Jan. 6 were Trumps last-ditch effort. It failed, so hes cut his MAGA morons loose.
Now those idiots realize they arent going to be facing simple breaking and entering charges. Instead, they might be indicted for serious federal crimes, like:
Seditious conspiracy
Damage to federal property
Use of explosives
Crossing state lines to commit crimes
Rebellion and Insurrection
Double crap. Any thoughts of, Maybe they wont find me? are immediately followed by, Oh wait. I posted it all on Parler. Damn.
Right now, the live-streaming insurrectionists are already losing their jobs. A boatload of them. Yet thats nothing compared to what is coming. Facing 20 years in prison or worse, that traitorous and celebratory fun suddenly doesnt seem like so much fun. Especially for those who participated and still have a lot to lose.

(19,438 posts)inmates, both in the joint or the halfway house, were there for ludicrous reasons- 5 months for drunk driving on Federal property; lying on an application of some kind; one guy was doing weekends in a halfway house because he shoplifted some pants at the Yosemite Gift Shop. He'd bargained his way down from actual prison time.
When the time gets handed out to these insurrectionists, I expect them to be shocked. I sure hope so- every damn one of 'em. I thought they should get shot as soon as they entered the interior of the building.

(3,749 posts)I would imagine that the Feds can find one or two eyewitnesses who would be more than willing to cut their time in the sneezer by providing useful information.
I don't know if any of the incident was caught on video, but there are cameras everywhere in that building, so it's entirely possible.

(5,214 posts)There ALWAYS is video these days.
Not just the cameras around the Capitol, but almost every one of the attackers had their iphones and androids out filming everything.
You gotta know that our government has every cellphone number that was active within the blocks in and around the Capitol. The FBI is publishing photographs and asking for help identifying the names of people wanted for federal crimes already recorded. Its going to be a lot of people who are hauled in after that.
The FBI may not be quick, but they are thorough, and you know its coming.

They were his useful idiots, and they will be treated just like everyone else he has used and discarded before. Especially if he can never run for office again.

Trump was reportedly enjoying the riot
On Wednesday afternoon, the Times reporter Maggie Haberman said a Trump advisor had told her that people close to Trump were "certain the president wanted this and is enjoying it."
Nuzzi also described an advisor as saying that Trump was enthusiastically watching TV coverage of the riot but was later upset by the mess the mob created.
"Donald Trump was annoyed by the violent siege on the Capitol Wednesday which left several dead because it looked 'low class,' according to his adviser. 'He doesn't like low class things,'" Nuzzi tweeted.
She added: "The adviser confirmed that he was watching television coverage of the siege enthusiastically, but noted that the sight of his own supporters forming a violent mob and destroying property and lives offended him on aesthetic grounds."

(4,370 posts)I hope to Dog that's true. There was a report last week that the Karens and Incels are planning to regroup in D.C. on January 19, the day before the Biden-Harris Inauguration. While #DiaperDon might not publicly encourage them to regroup, he's sending signals anyway: his absence from the ceremony could be taken as a green-light for further mayhem because Hair Furor won't be in the crowd.
The Capitol police -- backed by a huge number of federal LA and military personnel -- better have their act together in 10 days!
