Here's an Uplifting Thought: Despite the Poor Security at the Capitol,

that mob of seditious insurrectionists did not even come close to reaching their goals. In spite of their thousands, they did not seize control of the US Government. All they did, aside from hurting a few people, was to delay the business at hand for a few hours.

Then, when reinforcements finally arrived, they slunk away from the scene and returned to their mothers' basements once again.

Many were so stupid, in fact, that they made videos of their crimes and took selfies. Then, they posted them on their own social media venues, making it easy to identify the criminals. That stupidity, along with the advanced technology used by law enforcement and the help of people who recognized and reported those morons, ensures that many of them will pay a price for their actions and be prosecuted for their crimes.

Who won? Not them. They failed, because they are stupid, ineffectual people. Who won? The US system of government won.

Sucks to be those insurrectionists. They accomplished nothing, and now must face the consequences of their actions.

We all suspect who was involved, but they probably won't confirm it "for the good of the country." I feel bad for the beat cops at the Capitol because they were placed in an untenable position and were betrayed by their leadership. I'm afraid they'll just be allowed to quietly resign and slink away. I hope that doesn't happen, but that's usually how it goes.

These traitors need to be made an example of and I hope the incoming administration does it. If they're allowed to get away with this now, they'll do it again, and next time it might be a real bloodbath.

If I were to suggest that there was an ulterior motive for the failed insurrection, if I were to support the belief already promulgated that certain people entered the Capital in search of very specific information, only because I have read similar comments in the past few days, is my opinion worth less because I can’t prove it?

It’s sometimes hard to state deep held beliefs because others doom you nuttier than a fruitcake, but I do believe that certain elements went in looking for specific information. Spy’s? I don’t know - maybe. I believe that what we have seen is the surface of a much more deep seeded plot.

most certainly CREATE their own counter conspiracies to deal a blow to their imagined enemies/threats.

Several things/people they were undoubtedly looking for:

Pence/Speaker Pelosi and several others to do them harm.
The missing 11,780 votes.
The electoral vote certificates.
The deep state.

In addition to this group, there were probably forging foreign agents mixed in looking for any information/intelligence of value. It was the opportunity of a lifetime and it would be foolish to miss it. Make no mistake, they are our enemies and have no obligation, commitment, respect for the United States, it's institutions, or it's citizens.

Will the Capital Building be left vulnerable again?

When Republicans are in charge the entire country is vulnerable to attack whether that is Al Qaeda, Corona virus or the Proud Boys.

Do we have a guarantee that the National Guard or DC Police will actually protect the Capital from January 16th to the inauguration?

I think they had not planned to find the Capital undefended. They saw an opportunity and they surged inside. They didn't know what to do except perhaps kill Mike Pence.

Unacceptably close. I'm not sure how much we can rely on stupid, ineffectual people being thwarted in the future. Moreover, these front-line insurrectionists are deliberate fodder for the people who organize and encourage them. It's a deliberate strategy that their troops are ignorant, and I'm not as sure as you are that they wouldn't be successful.

I hope that the next time, any such insurgent insurrectionists are met with instant and fatal consequences.

While I was watching the invasion unfold in the Capitol, it occurred to me that a few dead people, shot by the Capitol police, lying in the doorways might have turned back some of the hoodlums. But, that wasn't the order of battle that day. It should be from now on.

Deny entry to the Capitol and other such halls of government with lethal force at the first attempt to force entry.

The orders of battle must be changed.

Jan 2021

A few dead bodies in the doorways might well have been an effective deterrent.

Clearly, the invading terrorists were a serious, deadly risk to Senators, Congressmembers, and staff people. That's enough. If you are storming the Capitol in such a terrorist attack, you should be shot and killed to protect our lawmakers. Period. That is the only way a small number of defenders can protect a building like that. Lethal force.

The order of battle was not drawn up properly. I hope that is changed.

Check points at all Beltway exits, using National Guard trucks across lanes and outside them. Let the Beltway come to a standstill.

Those "patriots" from the 1st mass insurrection stupid enough to return will already be on the FBI's and police master list. Any new patriots with them get picked up as accessories after the fact, with all ID, devices and potential weapons conviscated.

All check points have buses for hauling the arrested to processing and jail, trucks for hauling boxed and labeled possessions of the arrested.

There should be no million militia march to even enter DC this week.

It's called an "abundance of caution" preventive security.

First, had that LEO not shot that woman that mob would have broken into the house chamber and done unspeakable things to congressmen. It was that close to being next level horrible.

They forced Pence, Pelosi and other leadership to be evacuated and holed up.

They sacked the capital.

Then the overwhelming majority of them got to stroll out, brag about it on social media and hit the hotel bar.

A very small fraction will be charged and prosected, a smaller # receiving any meaningful prison time.

You immediately saw chatter about more attacks ...

Joe and Kamela are going to spend the next four years in complete lockdown, we are likely to see MORE assaults on state houses ...
