Increased policing will be directed at marginalized populations, as it always is. WhiskeyGrinder Jan 2021 #7

Why would the crimes committed at the Capitol result in only slaps on wrists? WhiskeyGrinder Jan 2021 #19

The organized terrorists from Wednesday’s attack will return. They need to be locked up for a very long time.

The mayor of 911 is now the 911 of mayors.
Giuliani fosters domestic terrorism.

so that it can't be coopted by any future administration to crack down on reasonable, non--violent dissent.

ANY response to this attempted coup, in fact anything passed from here on, has to take into account the possibility for misuse by the GOP or any other authoritarian cult.

I'd hope and expect that the ACLU and other civil liberty groups would be a part of drafting such legislation.

Finding a balance between protecting our liberties and protecting us from authoritarian wannabes and terror attacks is an ongoing challenge. I believe we have what it takes to successfully meet the challenge.

Trump can try to pardon himself. It can’t be done without it making him above the law. He could randomly decide to murder dozens of his perceived enemies and then just pardon himself. I don’t see that happening I would like to see the Trump terrorists get more than a slap on the wrist for trespassing.

With respect to a better class of politician, until dark money and obscene amounts of money in general are removed from the process, we will continue have the same issues. As far as a better class of people, that’s a different conversation.
