I live way out in the country. A few mile up the road from my house is a lonely Interstate-10 exit, with a single service station.
A few years ago I was coming home, on I-10 and saw a portable lighted sign in the median. The sign was flashing, "SHERIFF'S DRUG CHECK POINT AHEAD." I though, now that is really odd....

I got off on my lonely exit, and there was law enforcement officers from many agencies, tow trucks and school type buses and drug dogs. They were having a field day as the people read the sign and jumped off the interstate into the hands of the "check point."
The school bus had some of the most unhappy people sitting in the seats that I had seen in a long time.

The officer saw that I was a local and passed me on through after a brief conversation. The old boy was like a kid at Christmas, with a big grin and a have a nice day.

I have a feeling that the courts may have shut that down, because after the second time I went through the same procedure, I never saw it again.
