Golfworld: It's no longer about politics: Golf needs to distance itself from Trump

The PGA of America needs to move the 2022 PGA Championship from Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J.

It needs to announce the decision today and make it very clear: We want nothing to do with soon-to-be-former President Donald J. Trump.

This is no longer a political issue; it is no longer a case of taking a side with one political party or another. This is about a man who encouraged—all but ordered—his supporters to attempt some sort of clumsy coup d’etat on the United States government. This is about a man who, even AFTER finally telling his supporters it was time to leave the U.S. Capitol following one woman’s death and the Capitol building itself—a major part of our country’s history—had been severely damaged, tweeted: “We love you. You’re very special.”

He then added, “These are the things and events that happen when a sacred landslide election victory is so unceremoniously and viciously stripped away.” In other words: “I lost, so storming the Capitol, inciting violence and breaking laws is not only allowable, but the people committing those acts are, ‘special.’

Again, this has nothing to do with whether one voted for Trump or President-elect Joe Biden. It has nothing to do with being in favor of The Wall or not being in favor of it. It has nothing to do with kneeling for the national anthem or pillorying those who did so.

It has to do with a man out of control, a man who has refused to accept the results of a clear-cut election defeat and has continued claiming “a landslide victory,” even though the results of the election have been verified by all 50 states and backed up by dozens of court cases that went against the claims of the president. That’s not to mention the right-leaning Supreme Court, which refused to even take up attempts to have the results of the election thrown out.

of him cheating at golf - claiming scores and trophies he didn't earn. This is a gentlemen's game where the scores may be based on ones honesty and you Sir are no gentlemen.

OK I made that up but you know they were thinking it.

Multi-golf-resort-owning president of the US, this statement, I would imagine, would give them a clue that their ideals and philosophies are not in line with the majority of the thinking world.

Then there's trump.

... said Jim Richerson, president of the PGA of America in a statement on Sunday. "It has become clear that conducting the PGA Championship at Trump Bedminister would be detrimental to the PGA of America brand and would put at risk the PGA's ability to deliver on many programs and sustain the longevity of our mission.''

...this insipid game, mostly because most of the people I knew who loved it were racists. Why would someone walk around in the hot sun chasing a stupid little ball just to spend more time with racists?

I hope the people who sue Trump end up with his golf courses when he can't pay damages and convert them into fruit orchards.

Well maintained, nice people, decent 19th (37th?) hole. Those were halcyon days, my friend! Usually played alone, but had a friend or two along sometimes. Racism was not on the agenda. Joking about RMN was, laughing was, music was.

...with nitrates, phosphoryl ester pesticides, soaking up inordinate amounts of water to chase a stupid ball.

It seems obscene.

Why I've walked in the woods lots of times, all by myself, no pesticides, no nitrates, except what falls out in the rain from, um, lawn mowers, cars, and the like, breathed clean air, no beer, just wonder.

As for "doobies," I don't do that kind of stuff. It makes one senseless and synthetic.

I can't speak for all golfers but the ones I knew were racists and they liked to blow money on "business golf" at the company expense. From what I heard, very little business was actually discussed but it did allow for drinking afterwards on the company dime.
