(Another) amateur move by Parler, among many we're learning today. To enumerate: Parler allowed for third-party scraping of all user data, didn't delete "deleted" posts, had moderation tools it didn't use, and oh, collected Social Security numbers.

The accounts they call "verified influencers" (the gold logo I believe) get paid to mention products. There are setup screens for verified influencers that allow them to let advertisers know they're available for ad campaigns.

For example, they might get paid to post something about how they just grilled ribs & used Bob's BBQ Sauce because it's the best BBQ sauce, & Bob's pays a credit to their account for mentioning it. It's not marked as a promoted post, the whole point is that the readers aren't supposed to know they're being marketed to.

If a verified influencer gets paid enough (more than $600) Parler has to issue a 1099 & report the income to the IRS. There's even an "Upload my W-9" option on the verified influencer setup screen.
