Michael Holmes @holmescnn
@nytimes - Deutsche Bank, which has been Trumps primary lender for two decades, has decided not to do business with Trump or his company in the future.
Trump currently owes Deutsche Bank more than $300 million, which is due in the next few years.

(302 posts)It would have netted trump 9 figures. Now they may be worried about getting in line first for whatever cash he might have. He still has the election fraud fund, most of which he can use for whatever he wants.
Question: if he uses his fund for personal expenses, does he have to pay taxes on it beforehand? It is unearned income. If not, then why isn't everyone doing this?

TomSlick
(13,061 posts)The prior bankruptcies were of Trump businesses.
Trump has personally guaranteed his current debts. (BTW, real billionaires do not personally guarantee business loans.) When these personally guaranteed debts are called, tRump will have to file a personal bankruptcy.

(302 posts)His business model was to stiff all the people and businesses he owed money to by going Chapter 11. He did it so often, he ruined his credit and needed to deal with shady lenders. Enter Deutsche Bank and Russian mob. The Russians cultivated this relationship for potential political capital and it paid off beyond their wildest dreams. As a Russian plant, the damage he has done to the US reputation, the serious compromises in national defense, the classified intel he and his family funnel to them, the blind eye he turns to Russia's massive transgressions--the value is incalculable.
But they will still want their money and they will hold him "hostage" for whatever else they can squeeze out of him for ever more. He is "their bitch." He knows it. They know it. And the Biden Admin knows it. He remains the biggest threat to our national security.
WinstonSmith4740
(3,451 posts)He was known as such a dead beat, I'm willing to bet that even Deutsche Bank didn't want to lend to him. I can't remember if it was Qusay or Uday, but one of them made the statement a few years back that they were getting all the money they need from Russia. My fervent wish is that his man crush Vlad agreed to guarantee the loans, and I have a feeling that he's not a good person to owe money.

(31,261 posts)Also, he has he name on stuff that isnt his (for a fee). The big problem non-thug lenders have is being close to the front of the repayment line, cause we know that Putin, Erdogan and the Saudis are going to get their money one way or another, so they dont have to shuffle into line.

(5,347 posts)It is a large tower in a very premium location. Kushner's boondoggle, 666 5th Ave, sold in 2000 for $500M; I can't see Trump Tower going for much less, even factoring in the taint.
Lonestarblue
(13,536 posts)I think he bribed someone in the city to allow him to build with sprinklers. Not that I could afford an apartment there, but I would not want to spend many millions on a high-rise apartment that is a fire hazard. That would probably decrease its value, but its still worth a lot for its location.
sir pball
(5,347 posts)It's grandfathered out of the sprinkler requirement; IIRC any renovations have to include sprinkler installations but as long as you don't rip out walls, you're legally in the clear. It doesn't make a sale impossible but it definitely hurts the resale value; I'd be deeply pleased if DB used that rationale to offer to settle for the whole building. $50m or so in work and they've got a billion-dollar asset on their hands

(2,010 posts)I wouldn't put it past him or his family.
They've been bilking money from supporters as an income source. All that merchandise, multiple requests for donations daily for "legal expenses" is like a GoFundMe page. But an actual one to cover his debts would be just the sleazy thing they'd do; then he'd launder the donations and declare bankruptcy anyway. Note: they and he refer to 45 and his family, who would advise him.

The only way I can see Ivanka and Jared restoring their reputations and ever going to a Met Ball again is for them to turn on him. While he's alive. It won't be impressive at all after he's gone.
I can imagine Eric and Tiffany doing the same. Don Jr, not so much--he may not inherit anything more than a sack of beans, but he's hoping to become the heir to his dad's cult of anger and grievance. But three out of four wouldn't be bad.

(60,349 posts)Who knows? Could be around minus 300 per cent. He probably borrowed money against his share using the same collateral five times over with five different lenders. That only works as long as not more than one lender wants to be paid back and the rest dont know about it. Having the story repeated all over the internet is not likely to be the best way to keep this story quiet. Even if its a complete fabrication, its going to make his creditors nervous, and he cant afford to have all of them nervous at the same time.
