BY ALEXANDER BOLTON - 01/12/21 06:00 AM EST
Sens. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas) are facing a possible vote on a censure resolution in the Senate as Democrats and some Republicans blame them for the mob that attacked the Capitol last week.
Several Democratic senators have called on Hawley and Cruz to resign and Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) and Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) have called for them to be expelled if they dont step down voluntarily.
Democratic aides say there is a discussion about censuring the two lawmakers for helping to incite protesters who temporarily halted the counting of the Electoral College last week after overrunning Capitol Police.
Some Republican colleagues are also not happy about Hawley and Cruz, though GOP criticism of the pair tends to be softer than the barbs thrown toward President Trump, who is even more widely blamed for the debacle.

(8,231 posts)Censure isn't defined in the Constitution or law, so it would be whatever punishment the Senate put in the censure resolution, within legal limits of course.

offices in the basement, etc.
Other members do not address them by name if they remain in Congress.
Bob_in_VA
(146 posts)Committee assignments are done by each party. The Republican caucus would have to do this and I doubt that they would. Not sure about office assignments and, as far as I know, Perks are not assigned, just there for all to use (or abuse).

(10,749 posts)A censure to them would be a badge of honor. They would fund raise off of it. They almost certainly still believe that they have done nothing wrong.
Expel them.

(302 posts)Yeah, let's just say tsk, tsk, tsk and waive our fingers at them for enabling Treason.
Offering censure is a proactive get-out-of-jail-free pass disguised as a show of strength.

(410 posts)It is like telling these nasty fucks to go sit in the corner for 5 minutes!
Anyone who would be affected by being censured, would never have even contemplated doing what they did and continue to do, in the first place.
C'mon Man!
They need to be kicked out - will not happen because the whole Rethuglican party is deplorable, but censure, as someone already stated, is a joke!
FDT!

(8,475 posts)and if censure doesn't cause enough shame, embarrassment and repentance, why, a sternly-worded letter would be next. I hate to think what effect that letter would have. Devastating, I'm sure.
