Congress requires pruning.

Those lucky enough to have fruit trees understand pruning. If you would have an apple tree, for example, that thrives, withstands storms and pests and produces maximum fruit, you have to occasionally---at least annually---cut away and discard some parts of the tree.

Some limbs are lopped off if they are broken; some if they are diseased and some simply because they are "going the wrong way". Failure to attend to necessary pruning will certainly result in a useless, unproductive eyesore that will die of interior rot.

Numerous Republicans need to be pruned from Congress if the "tree of liberty" they claim to be concerned about is to survive.

And steal a lot of the tree's fruit production.

And sometimes a branch of significant size must be removed to maintain a semblance of order .

Must be very careful, when borrowing the insurrectionists' "Tree of Liberty" language, to make it clear that we are not speaking of borrowing their violent, traitorous methods as well.

We prune them through elections. They won’t be prosecuted, they will be seated, they won’t be expelled.

5. Good. Just clarifying that they will never, ever be subjected to violence or threats of violence.

It's a disgrace that we live in a society where that even needs to be said, but after years of Republican leaders issuing dog-whistle calls to violence, you can't be too careful with your words.
