(1,325 posts)For no good reason.
The inauguration does not have to be in-person public. It will absolutely as legitimate if it is done remotely. Some say it has to be in person in order to convey a message of strength. The biggest message to result from that will be one of total chaos. A remote inauguration would not be weak; it would be smart!

ETA: And what would have happened if we caved in to this

No thank you.

(1,325 posts)Investigations and prosecutions will not stop. Arrests will continue. Even if the inauguration is held remotely, the police/secret service/national guards will still need to be in DC. The State capitols will also need protection.
A remote inauguration will at least reduce the number of casualties we can expect. It may even discourage the size of the terrorist response.
An in-person inauguration would be reckless and unnecessary.

(59,147 posts)If they all get arrested they still would have accomplished their objective.
Why do you think after the Capital was attacked, they were determined to finish the Electoral College why do you think that was? To show them they couldn't stop it. I won't argue with you anymore because you have lost, it will be a in person Inauguration.
Have a nice day.
