Top military officials preparing rare message to US forces in the wake of the Capitol attack

CNN's Barbara Starr and Oren Liebermann

Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff are preparing to send a message to the entire military force reiterating a tone of reassurance given recent violence in Washington, according to two defense officials.

The message will remind the force that their obligation is to support and defend the Constitution and reject extremism, the sources said. The decision to issue the message was agreed upon by the chiefs on Tuesday, one of the officials said.

It is considered a significant step because the chiefs have sought to stay out of anything that may have political overtones. But given what has happened, they all felt it was important to make a statement given the gravity of events surrounding the inauguration.

both criminal and a threat to the very existence of the country in its intended form. So while I'm glad they're putting forth a warning, they're being a bit overly cautious and treading too lightly given that they and all their forces swear an oath to uphold the Constitution--and some of their members have already committed treason.

knows how to sweep the ranks clean. I have every expectation that they will owe their allegiance to our Constitution and not some power-mad sociopath and his cult member militias. And will conduct themselves accordingly with honour.

But they have been struggling for a while with white supremacists within the ranks. Gang members have been another problem. And of course there is the whole sexual assault problem. It is a bit disconcerting how many identified people at this riot have turned out to be veterans, including the dead woman. I'd presume that DoD is working with the FBI to see if they can't identify active duty members in the crowd.

they may get very serious about these different elements within its ranks. Thee rapes, the gangs and racist-fascist soldiers are known by someone in every rank. Betcha a large clean sweep is in the offing. Nothing else will suffice. The infiltrators in the political realm, the police departments by these trained racists and gang members are already being purged. I still have faith this democracy WILL HOLD IT TOGETHER.

I suspect something is afoot in the SS as well. They've had no small amount of trouble over the last several years, and now they are concerned about their PPD's as well. I suspect there may be a severe reaction to this event with respect to monitoring social media postings and acting on them.

I remember when an intruder made it to the main front foyer inside of the White House during President Obama's presidency. I was shocked by the implications. So yeah there has been trouble afoot with them for a while now. W

Is that Trump takes a few h-bombs back to Merde Largo to nuclear cosplay Emilio Largo. Or worse, Jared passes a bunch of Fat Men off to the Proud Boys and the other terror groups.

I'm sure highly highly unlikely BUT highly unlikely things have been becoming commonplace. All to say, I pray the Armed Forces have their shit firmly under control.
