I still don't think for certain that he will. I just think there's a fifty percent chance he will.

I keep thinking back to George Conway's tweet from a couple of days ago saying he thinks we have the votes.

1. Valid or not McConnell suspects trump helped him lose majority status because of Georgia
2. He truly believes trump incited the riot against the Capital, and as slimy as McConnell is, that was crossing a line even for him
3. He believes that trump has hurt his Republican Party for years to come, and wants to see trump’s name no longer associated with the Republican Party. Damage control so to speak

Problem he has is they made a pack with the devil, and they will pay a heavy price for that for sometime

Not 2/3 of the entire senate of record.

So if 20 to 25 ReThug senators decide to take a powder during the vote and no show the room - the the 2/3 yes vote of the total senators in the room is not so bleak.

.... to remove trDump from the political stage right now. TrDump fucked up,... over played his hand,... has become politically toxic because of the violence at the Capitol that he incited.

If Moscow Mitch strikes quickly while the iron is red hot on this violence issue, the crown of the ReThug Party can be ripped off trDump's head and restored to the head of Moscow Mitch as the Party big cheese. Besides McConnell never really appreciated playing second fiddle to trDumpie anyways.

Too sad,.... bye bye.

There's a risk if they don't just go for impeachment now and agree to let sleeping dogs lie, he's going to lose even more seats.

2022 isn't that far away and Trump is just dead weight now.

barred from running for Public Office again, then McConnell can create a narrative of those darn Radical Democrats taking down our President, while carefully airbrushing the last 4 years. If he's not barred, then Trump can spend the next 4 years sucking the life out of the GOP with his threats to run, while taking revenge on Republicans. I think the courts are going to take Trump down eventually, so making it easy for McConnell now is a dangerous move for Democrats.
