Some GOP members of Congress are refusing to go through metal detectors in order to enter the house chamber.
And theyre outright ignoring the orders of Capitol Police. This is the back the blue and law & order crowd.

Story April 04, 2006
Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) has complained she was the victim of racial profiling that led to a run-in with a Capitol police officer last week. Prosecutors are now reviewing whether to bring charges against her. We speak with Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee about the incident and we look at when several members of the Georgia General Assembly were denied entry to Coretta Scott Kings funeral in February. [includes rush transcript]
Prosecutors at the U.S. Attorneys Office are reviewing whether to bring charges against a member of Congress as a result of a reported scuffle with a Capitol police officer last week. Possible charges include assault or obstructing a police officer.
Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) has complained she was the victim of racial profiling when confronted by the officer last Wednesday in a House office building. The incident occurred when McKinney went around a metal detector as lawmakers are permitted to do while not wearing her congressional lapel pin.
McKinney said she was rushing to a meeting and that most members of Congress expect Capitol police to recognize them. She reportedly poked the officer with her cell phone when he stopped her.

Charges were filed but not acted on and a grand jury was convened but failed to indict. Regardless of what transpired later in her life (seems she ended up leaving the party and become a Green Party member IIRC), the Capitol Police do whatever the need to.
However white privilege will mean these GOP jackasses will probably skate.

(13,013 posts)Article I, Section 6 provides:
"They (Representatives and Senators) shall in all cases, except treason, felony and breach of the peace, be privileged from arrest during their attendance at the session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any speech or debate in either house, they shall not be questioned in any other place." (Emphasis added.)
There is a difference between arrest and being forbidden entry for violation of House rules.
Section 5 provides:
"Each House may determine the rules of its proceedings, punish its members for disorderly behavior, and, with the concurrence of two thirds, expel a member."
I see no reason either House cannot impose a rule that requires members to be searched by metal detector or otherwise before entering the chamber, forbid entry to any that refuse, and sanction any that enter the chamber contrary to the rule.
