A Texas lawmaker wants secession on the ballot. His supporters say they're dead serious.

On the second Saturday of every month, Karl Gleim marches at the Alamo battle site in San Antonio. He lays a ceremonial wreath to mark Texas' fight for independence from Mexico in 1836 and the Texas secession effort he supports today.

"It's not any particular president or political party or any particular person who's either an idiot or not, as the case may be, whatever," said Gleim, a retiree who started his monthly marches at the Alamo eight years ago.

"My opinion is, I'm tired of the BS and the stuff that's been going on for so long and looking at the idiots we've been dealing with in Washington for so long," he said. "Screw that. We can do better than that, locally."

Texit, as it's become known, is poised for a major boost this week with the expected introduction of a bill in the state legislature to put the question of secession to voters in a November 2021 ballot referendum.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
And don't forget to pony up your share of the national debt and any other obligations you owe BEFORE you slither away.

After secession, Texas would quickly split into five separate states, so we'd have our own Balkans on the southern border, constantly engaged in war against each other. Viva Tejas Libre!

And you’d provide a valuable lesson for others. Not sure a TX passport will open as many doors and they shouldn’t allow dual citizenship.

It sounds like political suicide. Texas is not that red and I hope most of the red is not that nuts. I’m not sure it is even legal to promote it.

That’s why Trump went to the Alamo. He is campaigning early to be dictator of Texas when they secede!

By supporting this, they are, traitors to the Republic and the oaths of office that they have made. Someone who has never held office in Texas can perhaps promote the idea of succession, but they will have forsworn the pledge of alliance and in my opinion given up the right to ever fly the American Flag. They are traitors to the USA. They may or may not be patriots to Texas, and I would say they are not. It is a guarantee that they are racist profiteers. It is probable that they are either directly or indirectly getting money from Moscow.

Any that bring this up, need to be investigated and removed from power. Texas, specifically Texas, gave up the right to secede when it rejoined the union.

The correct term for a Texas Lawmaker promoting succession is treason. The rest of the plan is okay though. In Texas you don't need a license to be stupid.

Also, if Texas did succeed, They would not get to own the bases. All the bases would still be Federal Property and it would be an act of war to try to take them. Nuclear Weapons are manufactured, maintained and kept in Texas.

I've seen the dynamic enough times to know when someone is scared that his heretofore unassailable position is slipping away. People like Gleim like it when everything is handed to them just because it's always been handed to them. Now he has to do something to show that he deserves his elevate perch, and he's got nothing. So he complains about unspecified idiots in Washington or taking his ball and going home so he can go back to his privileged position and not have to deal with any of these impertinent questions.
