Replying to @OlgaNYC1211
"members of Congress leading people through the Capitol on Jan. 5 in what she termed a "reconnaissance for the next day" when insurrectionists took part in a deadly siege on the legislative branch."

Every panic button in my office had been torn out the whole unit, she said, though they could come up with no rationale as to why. She had used them before and hadnt switched offices since then."

(820 posts)If I were a member I certainly would make it my business to find out who decided to remove this safety feature.
If they were trying to make the members helpless, they were a part of the insurrection.

(38,601 posts)This wasn't the invading group. This was maintenance? People responsible for hardware or safety inside the Capital?
What a betrayal.

(49,043 posts)Brock photo'd exiting Speaker's office just as the main group arrived there.
Some focused groups, perhaps Brock's, were fast. They may have been let in by renegade Capitol Police when a door on the side of the building was opened.
Key parts of this may have been planned.

(14,838 posts)Gov't laptops are encrypted. To use one, you have to insert your id and when you leave you take the id with you (it is your key to locks in the uilding - you can't forget it).
It would take a superpower level crack to gain access to the data. Additionally, they all have tracking hardware that will ping their locations the minute they are turned on, even if the hard drive has been removed.
It isn't a security threat.

(5,801 posts)the contents of the hard drive are backed up daily (every night).
So, should be easy for the data to be recovered.
Too bad, turds who stole them.

(1,910 posts)Once this unravels and the new DOJ can figure out who was involved in planning, federal conspiracy charges will result in long, long prison sentences. All for a 2 bit cowardly conman.

(49,043 posts)The top-down conspiracy has a lot of semi-plausible deniability built in, because they are clever. A lot of winks and nods. But put it all together and cracks start to appear, until in the end it doesn't fool courts.
The bottom-up conspiracies are easier to prove, generally, but they depend on numbers and make some attempts to use hidden ways. Parler was a big oops.
A few bottom-ups are peopled by clever people like Zip Tie Guy #1 and #2 who were part of separate groups. In their case, they couldn't help themselves but make themselves distinctive from the rest of the mob with their tactical gear.
The bottom-ups are mostly peopled with whites who depend on their white privilege. So, frankly, if you are a white at the bottom, then you are much more likely to be stupid because you don't have lack of privilege as an excuse and despite all the barriers, Western societies have lots of room for talent to rise. So the bottom-ups are starting to turn bottoms up as the investigations turn over more rocks.

(2,168 posts)I wonder if they will think of how horrible this is for children in their schools to have to hide and wait for it to be over. Praying they dont get found. I know the Dems get it, but will this experience sway any Republicans?
Well, maybe. One can hope.
They are self-serving people. They only care when it happens to them. They can't expand their thinking to something akin to "this has really opened my eyes to why we need stricter gun laws". The most they could come up with would be "I'm going to make a push for stricter gun laws for the Capitol because I work there".
It's called lack of empathy and GOPers have it in spades.
