Top Republicans Want Trump Done
January 13, 2021 at 6:27 am EST By Taegan Goddard

“Top Republicans want to bury President Trump, for good. But they are divided whether to do it with one quick kill via impeachment, or let him slowly fade away,” Axios reports.

“Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell would be more likely than not to vote to convict Trump — a green light for other Republican senators to follow.”

“House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy would love a Trumpless world, but doesn’t want to knife him with fingerprints. This school of thought wants to let Trump do himself in, without a big party fight over his sins and sentence.”

Washington Post: The GOP inches toward a desperate decoupling with Trump.

after republicans allowed him to turn the USA into a shithole country. But alas they got their tax breaks and unqualified judges in the mist of over 380,000 COVID-19 deaths.

We need to appeal to what they'll get out of it since that's their only real interest. The Constitution? Meh!

McConnell is thinking of his immediate legacy, so short-term needs. McCarthy is thinking how to keep the Trump base, which is long-term needs.

Both are craven political moves, totally divorced from our laws and democracy.

you gotta just cut this cancer out of the party

So, today Trump will be impeached... tomorrow here is what you do.

Start the trial tomorrow. Allow each House manager 15 min to make their case, allow the same amount of time for Trumps lawyers. Make sure Pense is in the room. after the 6 hours of prosecution and defense, vote to convict and remove. Roberts can swear Pense in right then and there. Send the Secret Service to arrest Trump and perp walk him out.

Done.

Your party will be broken for an election cycle or two, but you can rebuild.
