Eric Boehlert: Hannity's post-election ratings collapse

Hannity's post-election ratings collapse
Finishing in third place

As a portion of Trump's hardcore tribe abandoned Fox News because it wasn't sufficiently deranged in claiming the election had been "stolen” — the way up-and-coming rivals Newsmax TV and OAN have been in recent months — and as CNN rode a massive ratings wave as the post-election chaos grew, Hannity found himself watching the cable news competition from all the way in the rear. It represents a stunning fall for Fox News' one-time untouchable star.

Hannity's slow-motion demise represents the starkest reminder yet for Fox News that its post-Trump world could look very different, especially if far-right viewers dump the channel at Trump's urging.

Fox News is floundering, and some right-wing radicals are cheering the network's hardship. "FOX News continues to crash and burn after they turned a blind eye to the massive voter fraud in the 2020 election," reported the far-right conspiracy site, Gateway Pundit this week, featuring an image of the Hindenburg, with a Fox News logo on its side, bursting into flames.

In the immediate wake of the Trump-incited coup attempt last week on the U.S. Capitol, Hannity's show got demolished by Cuomo and Maddow. Last Thursday, Hannity landed 500,000 viewers 25-54, compared to 1.7 million for Cuomo and 1.1 million for Maddow. It's hard to recall the last time a regularly scheduled primetime program on Fox News lost by a 3-to-1 margin to CNN, and 2-to-1 margin to MSNBC.

It's been a spectacular run of last-place finishes for a cable host who easily dominated the 9 p.m. time slot for years.

I've got lots more ideas, if Jeff Bezos wants to make CEO of Fox, after the takeover. ;). nt TrollBuster9090 Jan 2021 #14

...but I'll take what I can get, for now. Hopefully, after the 20th, the DoJ will investigate his Russian money laundering activities with Trump, and we'll get to see his orange fashion statement.

They're like amoebas. They'll just keep dividing and dividing and dividing until they can't divide any more.

Fox is a public corporation. It would be so cool if Jeff Bozo finally has all he can take from them, and engineers a secret, hostile takeover of the company. He then keeps all the same assholes on the payroll, given that they have contracts, but forces them to do humiliating shows. Hannity will be forced to switch from his nightly anti-democratic party screed, to a show where he has to debate Van Jones, or Michael Moore every night, and be humiliated by his own stupidity.

Meanwhile, (F)ucker Carleson will be forced to to do a Jeopardy-like QUIZ SHOW, where he asks Republican contestants "Is this statement true or false?"

True or false: Did the National Debt increase or decrease under Reagan? *BZZT!* I'm sorry, that's incorrect. The National Debt actually TRIPLED between 1981 and 1989.

True or false: Did taxes go up or down under Reagan? *BZZT!* I'm sorry, that's incorrect. Taxes actually increased under Reagan. Capital Gains taxes for the rich decreased, but payroll taxes for the poor increased...

Steve "Didlo in a Jacket" Hilton will be forced to do a weekly news show on 'British Royal Family Gossip.'

'Judge' Jeanine Pirro will be forced to be the judge of a weekly DOG SHOW.

Maria Fart-Aroma will be forced to do an actual show about FINANCES, instead of political propaganda.

Laura Ingraham will be forced to do a cooking show, and Fux and Fiends will be forced to do a weather show for farmers in the morning.

Odds are they'll still get the same ratings, and make the same money...they just won't be able to damage the psyche of the country anymore.

Now that Democrats are in power, he can play the victim card, be outraged at some socialist proposal, and the angry, aggrieved MAGAts will slavishly lap it up.
