Remember that lectern seen being carried around the Capitol by a rioter (who was later arrested)?

Remember that lectern seen being carried around the Capitol by a rioter (who was later arrested)? Well it’s back and it’s gonna be used for a press event for Pelosi to speak after the House votes to impeach the President a second time:

It may be cute in some online circles, but I don't think it is appropriate.

Yes I can appreciate your point...and have you ever heard of 'reclaiming' a word?...as a gay kid in the 70/80's I had the insult 'queer' thrown at me often, but then in the later 90's and millenium era the "newer kids" took the word BACK, reclaimed it and repurposed it and now wear it as a badge of PRIDE!! It's a proud identity or orientation for many people now...It stands for (among other things) being proudly non-comformist, celebrating one's uniqueness, rejecting sexual identity-boxes or limitations, being open and fluid, etc etc. I've used it myself to descrbe my sexual orientation at times...quite a journey...time passes and things change, ya know ;->

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's lectern is back in use at the Capitol a rioter stole it last week, according to multiple reports.

ABC News says pool reporters noted that the California Democrat's lectern was wheeled into the Rayburn Room for use in today's enrollment ceremony of the House impeachment resolution.

…as it pertains to looting and destruction of property

I’m getting pretty tired of hearing Republicans harp about the BLM protests and the destruction to property and the looting that occurred incident to the protests.

But it’s especially galling to hear their hypocrisy while their “minions” storm the capitol buildings of the U. S. Congress and steal everything that isn’t tied down. Worse yet, some of my more conservative friends (trumpsters in case there is any doubt) like to insinuate that streets after the BLM protests were covered with trash, urine and other bodily wastes. You, know, just like the MAGATS did to the capitol building.

I think there is some suspicion that when the order of civilization breaks down, human beings do things that they wouldn’t normally do because they feel unleashed by otherwise civilized behavior.
This isn’t “bothsidesism”….it’s a call to Republicans to notice that they are in fact just as guilty as they presume us to be.

I've been to many events, such as county fairs, flea markets, things like that. People waited to use the available toilets, even if their need was great. There had to be functioning toilets in the Capitol Building. It is an inexcusable breach of our cultural norms to besmear the seat of our country's government.

Attacking our government is much different than protesting unfairness and injustice. Most of the people who attacked the Capitol will go home to their families or clans, with no physical marks to remember their disgrace. On the other hand, many people who attended BLM and other protests, were harmed or injured and may be facing long-term rehab.

Stealing and vandalism is not okay. I wasn't at any protests. I think that if the protests in big cities are seriously investigated, there will be proof of who caused damage and who stole, and I'm skeptical that it was the actual protesters. Cities like Portland need to submit public reports of findings and they need to be scrutinized.

I do hope trying to fence stolen Federal property is somewhere on the list of charges.

If someone shouted to you “ Watch out! You’re about to be crushed by a falling podium!” would you stand there and willingly be crushed because they’d misidentified a lectern?

Or would you realize that the name isn’t that big a deal after all and then move out of harm’s way?

...like this just breaks my heart how the media has been destroyed. The free press is a forefront of our democracy. People like that, who show genuine interest in such a mundane thing, they're doing something they actually care about, documenting our ongoing history.

While the "MSM" and "mass media" for "entertainment" (FOX News, CNN, MSNBC) is an issue, the truth of the matter is that there are truthtellers out there. There are people who just see reality, document it, and share it with the public. That's the point of the free press.

Just weird seeing their reactions. They know not that they are daily eviscerated, hated upon, demonized. Well, they saw a brief glimpse of it as they went to the protest and had their equipment busted and were beaten. Very dangerous stuff.

It seems a shame that Adam Johnson isn't going to get to use the lectern for Sunday home bible readings after all, but perhaps the Proud Boys have a slush fund that could purchase one for the Johnson family.
