a few minutes ago that, even if 67 Senators don't vote to remove Trump, he can be barred from running again if there are just 51 votes to convict. Can anyone confirm or deny?

(9,161 posts)1. You have to convict first. If they don't do that
they never get to the second vote to bar him from ever holding office. The second vote, if they get there, requires only a majority.

(7,627 posts)2. interesting. my understanding was that they could take a simple majority vote
after he is convicted.

The vote to ban him from running is a simple majority.

(1,584 posts)5. My opinion
My opinion is that it makes a very strong argument to exclude him from any federal office per the 14th Amendment due to the nature of the Article.
Anyone with standing could sue to keep him off the ballot and would have a very good case.
