...I think the scariest would have been Democrats not getting the House in 2018. That was the biggest key to keeping Trump and the Republicans from grabbing up all power in a way that would have been nearly impossible to reverse, not for a very long, dark time.

...it was more important to keep the house and flip the Senate than to take back the WH. So, yea, I think we would be feeling very different had Ossoff and Warnock not pulled off their massive wins.

With Trump in the executive for four more years he would have destroyed the country. Executives have tremendous (too much) power in our system. They can issue executive orders, control the Cabinet, etc.

...to keep his silly ass in check. Make to mistake about it, I'm over the moon we have all three. But, given the choice between the WH or the Senate, the Senate can keep the president in check to a large degree. A republican controlled Senate and a Democrat in the WH, well, we've seen that movie before.

The last 2-1/2 months should have been a time for celebration, Trump knew that too, so he's desperately tried to ruin it for all Dems. I feel relief that Joe won, but it's been such an all out assault on our Democracy by Trump and his partners that it's been a constant state of anxiety.

Then we won the runoffs in GA, a brief moment of joy before they tried to overthrow our Democracy by force. It's been a delayed celebration. I think next week Wednesday is going to be a huge release of emotion for 60% of the country, joy/relief/raw emotion. It's all going to come pouring out at once.

I tell you this though, since Trump lost Twitter and social media, his ability to terrorize the left has been gone, been a great last week without his every Tweet causing anxiety non stop.

Our Democracy was on the brink, almost over the brink, we barely kept it. We need to strengthen it if we hope to keep it going forward. Trump and his minions aren't going anywhere, and Congress is filled with people loyal to Trump over the country.

that Trumpism will decline now that the FBI, DOJ, and NSA will be treating the extremists as terrorists. I was reading an article that explains that the far right has managed to fly under the radar until now, with our “deep state” focused on Islamic terrorism. That’s over and these groups will be pushed back under their rocks, I believe. Social media will be more alert to their activities too. The less extreme Trumpers will likely go back to being non-voting idiots and leave the governing to the adults. That’s my hope anyway. We shall see.

These tech companies finally seem to be waking up to the fact that if they don’t start arbitrating the truth at a minimal level, that society will collapse.

This last week was good for the country and freedom of speech. Our speech is more free when hate and fake news gets pushed down.

We kept winning - and BunkerBoy kept pissing on our victory parade, throwing out roadblocks and lies that made us be quite active in defending what had been gained, only to have to work harder for the run-offs, and even NOW after the failed coup.
I think all of this has really "tempered the blade" as Ahnald (Arnold Schwarzenegger) showed in his video a few days ago. We are alert, strong, and ready to do what it takes to Make Amer.....(nah, just can't say it THAT way!) - make our country what we dream it could be.
