1. ****'National Hero': US Capitol Police Officer Hailed For Protecting Senate From Mob

A police officer has become an internet celebrity for his role in steering the pro-Trump protesters away from the US Senate chambers when they stormed inside the Capitol building on January 7. Angered by the defeat of US President Donald Trump and triggered by his baseless claims of ‘election fraud’, the angry mob took over one of the most iconic American building engulfing chaos in the Capitol. However, in the confrontation, Capitol Police officer Eugene Goodman, identified by CNN, was pictured getting the rioters to move away from the Senate singlehandedly while the law enforcement raced to secure the house.

Further, Goodman had put himself between a man wearing a black T-shirt for the QAnon conspiracy movement and the hallway that leads to the Senate chambers. Goodman then shoved the person to induce him and the crowd to chase him toward officers in the other direction. Lauding his courage, US Representative Bill Pascrell said on Twitter on January 10, “As trump’s fascist mob ransacked the US Capitol, this brave USCP officer kept murderous rioters away from the Senate chamber and saved the lives of those inside. God bless him for his courage.”

DENVER — Newly-elected Colorado Congresswoman Lauren Boebert has been under the microscope for weeks for being vocal about her choice to challenge Electoral College results and a promise to carry a gun with her to work. She now faces calls for resignation after Democrats said she helped incite the violence at the U.S. Capitol.

But photos of the Rifle Republican have been circulating with inaccurate claims.

A reverse Google Image search shows the photo is from a "Colorado Times Recorder" article from Dec. 9, 2019.

The investigative reporter who wrote the 2019 story, Erik Maulbetsch, told 9NEWS he was at the Dec. 8 “We Will Not Comply” rally at Colorado's Capitol. Maulbetsch said Boebert shared the photo on her Facebook page, which has since been deleted, but shared the screenshot he took of that post.

It's unclear if anyone pictured in the photo with Boebert participated in the Jan. 6 events.

DENVER — The chief of police in Washington, D.C. said Monday that he planned to speak to Colorado Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (R) about gun regulations within the city.

In a press conference, Robert Contee of the Metropolitan Police Department said Boebert, from Rifle, Colo., will be treated like any other citizen if she is caught breaking the District’s firearm rules.

“What I will say to that is there are no exceptions in the District of Columbia, with the exception of being able to carry on U.S. Capitol Police property,” he said. “We plan to reach out to the congresswoman’s office to make sure that she is aware what the laws of the District of Columbia are, what the restrictions are.”

“That congresswoman… will be subjected to the same penalties for anyone else that’s caught on a District of Columbia street carrying a firearm unlawfully.”

The chief’s comments followed a video that was posted to the freshman congresswoman’s personal Twitter account over the weekend. The video appears to show her conceal a gun under her blazer before walking through the city.

* Jerad and Amanda Miller were two anti-government wastes of good oxygen who were so insane they were kicked out of the Bunkerville Standoff. So, they drove up to Vegas, killed two cops who were on their lunch break, then went to the nearby Walmart and said "the revolution starts now." Joseph Wilcox knew from listening to too many Republicans that the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with one, and since he was a good guy with a gun he decided to lend a hand. 12. Facing House Censure Call, Mo Brooks Says He Won't Apologize

Two House Democrats have proposed that Congress censure U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks, arguing that his remarks at a rally of President Donald Trump’s supporters incited the mob that attacked the U.S. Capitol last week.

Brooks said Tuesday that his critics are misrepresenting his remarks, which were intended as a pep talk for the next election cycle. He added that, “I will never apologize for fighting to win our causes at the ballot box.”

Brooks has come under fire for comments at the rally in which he told the crowd that he wanted them to take a message back home and “along the way stop at the Capitol.” “Today is the day that American patriots start taking down names and kicking ass,” Brooks said at the Save America rally on Wednesday that preceded the riot at the U.S. Capitol. He was wearing a hat that said, “Fire Pelosi.”

Democratic Representatives Tom Malinowski of New Jersey and Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida on Monday introduced the resolution for censure, which is a public rebuke by Congress.

28. National Guard at Capitol Authorized to Use Lethal Force in Aftermath of Mob

THE 20,000 NATIONAL Guard troops preparing for pro-Trump demonstrations this weekend in the nation's capital will be armed and permitted to use lethal force, the headquarters overseeing them says, marking a striking escalation in the way authorities there are preparing for repeat violence after last week's deadly mob.

"On January 12, 2021, National Guardsmen were given authorization to be armed in support of the U.S. Capitol Police to protect the U.S. Capitol and individual members of Congress and their staff," according to a statement from the D.C. National Guard, which is commanding Guard forces in the city, including units deployed from six other states, to provide security for President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration next week.

A defense official confirmed the authorization includes permission for Guard troops to use lethal force.

The request came from federal authorities and was approved by Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy – who oversees D.C. Guard deployments since the District is not a state – indicating it was not a request from the local government.

Dozens of people on a terrorist watch list were in Washington for pro-Trump events Jan. 6, a day that ended in a chaotic crime rampage when a violent mob stormed the U.S. Capitol, according to people familiar with evidence gathered in the FBI’s investigation.

The majority of the watchlisted individuals in Washington that day are suspected white supremacists whose past conduct so alarmed investigators that their names had been previously entered into the national Terrorist Screening Database, or TSDB, a massive set of names flagged as potential security risks, these people said. The watch list is larger and separate from the “no-fly” list the government maintains to prevent terrorism suspects from boarding airplanes, and those listed are not automatically barred from any public or commercial spaces, current and former officials said.

The presence of so many watch-listed individuals in one place — without more robust security measures to protect the public — is another example of the intelligence failures preceding last week’s assault that sent lawmakers running for their lives and left five others dead, some current and former law enforcement officials argued. The revelation follows a Washington Post report earlier this week detailing the FBI’s failure to act aggressively on an internal intelligence report of Internet discussions about plans to attack Congress, smash windows, break down doors and “get violent . . . go there ready for war.”

Five years ago this month, Ammon Bundy led a 41-day armed occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge after protesting the return to federal prison of two Oregon ranchers convicted of setting fire to public land.

Bundy was acquitted of all charges after his arrest on allegations of conspiracy and impeding federal employees through intimidation, threat or force.

On Wednesday, the extraordinary images of a violent mob of right-wing Trump supporters storming the nation’s Capitol, incited by a president who refused to accept the 2020 election results, were no surprise to groups that have tracked extremists in the West.

Jennifer Rokala, executive director of the Center for Western Priorities, called the 2016 refuge occupation a “dress rehearsal for what we saw at the Capitol.” The center, based in Denver, advocates for land and water conservation in the West.

“The extremist ideologies and tactics that led to the violent occupation of public lands in Oregon are the same ideologies that President Trump has stoked among his supporters,” she said in a statement Thursday. “You can draw a straight line from the Bundy Ranch standoff and Malheur takeover to the Trump insurrection in Washington,” she said.

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) seems aware of the fact that he has a political problem. In the wake of last week's attack on the U.S. Capitol -- which came after the Missouri Republican raised his fist in apparent solidarity with the mob -- the young senator has become a political "pariah" on Capitol Hill; he's been denounced by former allies; and Hawley faces multiple calls that he resign in disgrace.

Hallmark, one of the most prominent companies in Hawley's home state, this week asked that the GOP senator give back the money Hallmark's political action committee contributed, saying his recent anti-election actions "do not reflect our company's values."

Apparently eager to turn things around, Hawley appeared on Fox News this week, though it didn't help. Yesterday, the far-right senator tried again, writing an op-ed for the Southeast Missourian newspaper, explaining why he objected to Joe Biden's electoral votes last week, even after the insurrectionist mob attacked the U.S. Capitol.

Many, many citizens in Missouri have deep concerns about election integrity. For months, I heard from these Missourians -- writing, calling my office, stopping me to talk. They want Congress to take action to see that our elections at every level are free, fair, and secure. They have a right to be heard in Congress. And as their representative, it is my duty to speak on their behalf. That is just what I did last week.

38. Exclusive: Large bitcoin payments to right-wing activists a month before Capitol riot linked to fore

WASHINGTON — On Dec. 8, someone made a simultaneous transfer of 28.15 bitcoins — worth more than $500,000 at the time — to 22 different virtual wallets, most of them belonging to prominent right-wing organizations and personalities.

Now cryptocurrency researchers believe they have identified who made the transfer, and suspect it was intended to bolster those far-right causes. U.S. law enforcement is investigating whether the donations were linked to the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol.

While the motivation is difficult to prove, the transfer came just a month before the violent riot in the Capitol, which took place after President Trump invited supporters to “walk down Pennsylvania Avenue” and “take back our country.”

Right-wing figures and websites, including VDARE, the Daily Stormer and Nick Fuentes, received generous donations from a bitcoin account linked to a French cryptocurrency exchange, according to research done by software company Chainalysis, which maintains a repository of information about public cryptocurrency exchanges and whose tools aid in government, law enforcement and private sector investigations. Chainalysis investigated the donations after Yahoo News shared the data points about the transaction.

According to one source familiar with the matter, the suspicious Dec. 8 transaction, along with a number of other pieces of intelligence, has prompted law enforcement and intelligence agencies in recent days to actively investigate the sources of funding for the individuals who participated in the Capitol insurrection, as well as their networks. The government is hoping to prevent future attacks but also to uncover potential foreign involvement in or support of right-wing activities, the source said.

50. UPDATE: Q-Shaman faces 20 years in jail

PHOENIX — One week after he was pictured with rioters in the U.S. Capitol, Jacob Chansley, the "QAnon Shaman," faces a six-count federal indictment.

Chansley appeared in the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 wearing a fur headdress and horns. He had a spear with an American flag attached and was bare-chested in tan pants. One of the most recognizable members of the mob, Chansley was also pictured standing on the dais of the U.S. Senate Chamber.

The indictment, dated Jan. 11, was made public Wednesday. Chansley faces the following charges:

Civil disorder
Obstruction of an official proceeding
Entering and remaining in a restricted building
Disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building
Violent entry and disorderly conduct in a Capitol building
Parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol Building

If convicted of the obstruction charge, Chansley could face up to 20 years in federal prison.

56. Utah Man Charged in Federal Court Following Events at the United States Capitol

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A Utah man was charged today in federal court in the District of Columbia in connection with the riots at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021.

John Earle Sullivan was charged by complaint with one count of knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, one count of violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, and one count of interfering with law enforcement engaged in the lawful performance of their official duties incident to and during the commission of civil disorder. The defendant was arrested today in Utah.

The Complaint alleges that during the events at the U.S. Capitol, Sullivan, wearing a ballistics vest and gas mask, entered the U.S. Capitol through a window that had been broken out, pushing past U.S. Capitol Police once inside. The Complaint also alleges that Sullivan admits to filming and being depicted in video footage that shows him present, outside of the Speaker’s Lobby within the U.S. Capitol, at the shooting of a woman by a U.S. Capitol Police officer.

They flew from their affluent suburbs to the U.S. Capitol, ready to die for the cause of white privilege

The stunning pro-President-Trump insurrection that occurred at the U.S. Capitol less than a week ago must have been a carnival for one’s olfactory bulb, as the stinging aroma of tear gas blended with the pungent odors of the occasional joint, or maybe the piles of dung that some of the cruder mob members left in the hallways once graced by icons like Daniel Webster, Henry Clay, and LBJ. The only thing that wasn’t in the air on Wednesday was the smell of what so many have falsely tied to Trump’s authoritarian movement — any whiff of “economic anxiety.”

When fascism finally came to America in the form of an attempted coup to halt our presidential election, it came from lush-green suburbs all across this land, flying business class on Delta or United and staying in four-star hotels with three-martini lobby bars — the better to keep warm after a long day of taking selfies with friendly cops or pummeling the unfriendly ones, chanting “Hang Mike Pence!” and generally standing athwart democracy yelling “Halt!”

Long ridiculed as deplorables rising up from the muck of Rust Belt trailer parks, the Donald Trump counter-revolution has finally revealed itself as an upper-middle-class affair.
